Hands-On: With The Girard-Perregaux 1966 Column-Wheel Chronograph (Live Pics, Pricing, Thoughts)
One of the most exciting new launches at Basel World 2013 was Girard-Perregaux's manually wound integrated chronograph.? We told you about it on the very first day of the show here, and now we're back with live photos and thoughts.First things first, this watch was a long time coming.? GP has been making nice looking chronos for years in its 1966 collection, but, as Jason said in our Week On The Wrist review of one, its a high-price to pay for a modular chronograph.? Of course others charge even more for modular chronos - we're looking at you AP Royal Oak Offshore - but that's a sport watch for a sporty guy who may not care so much about mechanics or horological purity.? The 1966 looks like a purist's watch, and now, finally, it has a purist's movement.? 2 OF 18 The old chronograph caliber in the 1966 was a GP3300 base with a dubois-depraz module attached.? It was self-winding, and rather nice, really, but just didn't make sense in a watch like this.? The rotor blocked h

5227 as only watch?
Hey guys. I’m looking for a new watch, and first Patek. Currently have a Rolex. But iv’e really fallen in love with the 5227. Could this watch hold up for being a daily “beater”/only watch? I know I will need a new strap now and then. But is the movement delicate? And how often will it need service? I will wear it everyday and have it ingraved for my 2 year old son. :) (hold it for the next generation )Thanks guys!
Advice wanted; A couple of different buying options
I’ve been reading this forum for some time now and I get a lot of great information. I’m kinda of in limbo land trying to decide on a watch or watches to buy. I’m consider the following pre-owned PP watches and I have in the low 20s to spend:Option 1:5110 5035 5055 6000 5296 5711 (blue or white dial)Option 2:5065ARolex Milgauss (green sapphire crystal model)I currently own a few Rolexes and wear a Daytona daily. If I went with Option 1, I would wear the PP watch occasionally and continue wearing the Daytona everyday. If I went with Option 2, I would probably swap out the 5065a and the Milgauss or with my other Rolexes on a daily basis. (How likely is that, usually once a favorite is picked out and then it becomes the daily to wear). Here is the dilemma I’m wrestling with, the watches listed in Option 1 I really prefer over the 5065a. Problem is I don’t see wearing it everyday and it will stay in the watch winder more than on my wrist. With Option 2 I think
