Historical Perspectives: That Time An Imperial Russian Faberg Egg With A Vacheron Constantin Watch Inside Was Discovered At A Midwestern Flea Market And Became The Most Expensive Timepiece On Earth
In one of those stunning stories only made possible by the Internet, in 2012 a man turned to Google to search for "Vacheron & Constantin" and "egg" to find that the jewel-encrusted gold egg housing a Vacheron watch he purchased for $13,302 in the early 2000s at a Midwestern flea market was in fact an 1887 birthday gift for Tsar Alexander III from?Peter Carl Faberg. It has now sold privately for millions,?likely?making it the most expensive timepiece on earth. The unnamed individual stumbled on a 2011 Telegraph article entitled "Is this 20 million nest-egg on your mantelpiece?" The egg was the third of 54 Faberg?eggs owned by the Russian royal family and had been lost since 1922. It is recorded that in 1922 this egg was transferred from the Kremlin Armoury, which had confiscated the eggs in 1917 when the Tsar was overthrown, to the special plenipotentiary of the Council of People's Commissars, Ivan Gavrilovich Chinariov. Beyond the written records, a 1902 photograph of the egg on exhi
Lucky day at the airport (first Rolex)
So, I was walking through Schiphol on Friday, with an hour to kill before my flight home, when I happened upon a 116710LN at the airside Gassan store. It was sitting the the display window (the only SS model they had) and the salesperson said she had just put it out there minutes before.Moments later, it was on my wrist, and I boarded my flight home with a big smile. This is my first Rolex, and as a frequent business traveller, I think the GMT complication will be very useful. Here's a quick picture taken from the lounge. By the way, for those who might be interested in buying a watch from the airport, I paid exactly MSRP minus VAT (which in NL, is 21%), so in this case 7,750 EUR - VAT = 6,404 EUR.
Selling via watchmaster.com
Hi GuysAnyone have any experience (good or bad) is selling via watchmaster? They seem to offer a higher price albeit via a commission basis and not outright purchase. Looking to sell a 2013 BLNR so assuming it should be a relatively quick sale so looking for the best price rather than a super-fast sale. Thanks in advance.
How Important Are Box And Papers?
How Important Are Box And Papers if you trust the seller (and they offer a refund)?I can understand if you want to sell it, but let's say it is a keeper, and it was roughly $1K cheaper?
Visit to AD yesterday - SD43 list update
So I got a chance to visit my AD yesterday. Last day off before going back to work. Wanted to get an update on any SD43 deliveries and check on my latest position on the waiting list. Well six months later I sit exactly where I sat back then #3. I asked when was the last time he even saw and SD43 in the flesh and he said he thinks they had one about three months ago. My next question was going to be, well why am I not now #2 on the damn list! But I am starting to figure out how this works and I'm sure some VIP big-spender got it. He said they should start coming in sometime in February - something about the new production year for Rolex starting up on Feb 1st. Said stay on the list, I WILL get one before long. Yeah right, I won't be holding my breath.Couple other items of interest:Asked about Daytona C wait list. Said 35 on there currently. I said is that like two years? He said way longer that that.I asked if he had seen any SS Sky Dwellers recently. He said they got one
