Hey guys as I do during most business trips I seek out local Rolex/Patek ADs to have a look around and to kill time while away from home. Well my latest trip had me in China for 10 days and specifically in Shanghai this past weekend with a free Saturday afternoon...having recently picked up my 5167 I searched for any local Patek dealers to tour and research my next purchase. Oh boy did I get a surprise when the Maison Shanghai was within walking distance from my hotel. Thickness Complaints - A Brief Thought
It seems to me that every time a Tudor BlackBay is brought up in a post or released a lot of people ask How thick is it? Which is always followed by massive complaints that the in house BB is simply too thick. So what gives?First, we first have to start with the reality. Tudor set themselves up for this one as the original ETA BB was a skinny 12.7 MM (by dive watch standards for those manufactured by Rolex or Tudor). When the in house version came out and due to a bigger movement the thickness shot up to just under 15 MM at 14.8 MM, or by 15%! Now you do get a longer power reserve in trade-off. Some argue there should be no trade off at all. I do no necessarily disagree but I did not design the watch. The complaints and statements of if it wasn't so thick have not stopped since. Valid points.But is the thickness issue really a valid enough point to be the subject of nearly every Tudor BB post on the forum? The SubC is 12.7 MM thick, I don't think this includes the cyclops.The SD4k

OK, Basel is here (well just about!). And now that it is... A thought just crossed my mind? What other industry/company (it's not just Rolex) are able to enjoy a ten year+ product life cycle? And, the product (I'm sensing that the Coke GMT on a jubilee is the most anticipated) that is getting the most people excited is a decade plus old model being reunited with a part from the seventies!!!We all know the other ultra hot non Rolex models AP5202, PP 5711, both models 40 years old. What other luxury product that contains mechanical and aesthetical components can endure this lifecycle?Are we all mad?
