My First Grail Watch: Stepan Sarpaneva
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we are diving into the subject with Stepan Sarpaneva, and he lets us know about the accident that set him on the path to watchmaking.watches-dealer (ABTW): While I am sure many of our readers already know the answer, we need to ask - who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Stepan Sarpaneva: I am Stepan Sarpaneva, a watchmaker, designer, and owner of the Sarpaneva watch brand.ABTW: How did you get into watchmaking?Stepan Sarpaneva: Quite by accident. I was supposed to follow my father's path and become a goldsmith. I went through and did the two-day tests for both the goldsmith and the watchmaknig schools. I got directly in to the watchmaking school (in 1989), but I did not get accepted to the goldsmith school.I thought that I would then attend the watchmaking school for
AP Diver rubber strap sizes?
Hi all! While I'm enjoying my AP Diver, I'm actually wearing it at the last hole... which makes me wonder if the rubber strap actually comes in sizes or just a single size only?
15300ST or 15400ST : Best investment?
Hi,I love the AP RO and like to buy either a 15300ST or a 15400ST.I like them both but was wondering which one, longer term, will keep its value best? Ie, which one is the best investment (or least worse investment as a watch like this is never a good investment imho). Both use the same calibre but the 15300ST is more like the 'Jumbo' in size, so this makes it maybe more interesting longer term?On the other hand the 15400ST is 41mm which seems to be the 'new norm' (cfr Datejust 2).If I look at older RO's (ones of 36mm for instance) they seem to have lost a lot of value so I wonder if the same couldn't happen with the 15300ST a few years from now...Thanks for your thoughts on this!
Does 5167 have automatic movement?
I saw some listings that the aquanaut has automatic movement. But I was on PP website and it's mechanical self winding movement. Can anyone clarify?
Seriously there isn't a better looking Nautilus IMO! Sigh..
Haven't seen this specific Nautilus in the flesh, but the pictures alone make me sad. I must say that I do have a preference towards the clean dials on the Nautilus design, over complications. I like the dressier Pateks with complications. This specific blue dial, with the rose gold, and on leather strap, is just out of this world.I should be receiving my Patek 5711 blue dial in a few weeks. I have handled it many times and I absolutely love it. It is the perfect everyday Nautilus for me as it is SS, extremely versatile with casual to formal, the WR is high, the dial is just so beautiful, it has the beautiful bracelet, and not to mention it fits my budget.I don't know if I could justify this 5711R as my one and only even if it did fit the budget, as I love a Nautilus on a bracelet. I honestly wouldn't hesitate to buy it as my second if I had the budget; unfortunately not the case.Do any of our members on here own this beautiful reference?
