It is not unheard-of for a watch brand to issue a special edition of one of their watches to commemorate some special event - say, the 50th anniversary of a model being released, or the company having been in business for so many years. What is less common is to celebrate a milestone being hit by the master watch maker for the brand - but that is precisely what we have with the JS Watch Islandus 45 Anniversary Edition.In this case, the man being honored is Gilbert �� Guej��nsson who has been working on watches since 1970, when he started off in a provincial repair shop in Reykjavik. MB&F HM4 Piece Unique For The Only Watch 2011 Auction
Just as they did in 2009, MB&F will participate in the 2011 Only Watch charity auction to be held in Monaco this September. The event is an auction for unique watches only, with proceedings going to help fund research for a particularly nasty type of disease that affects children. Instead of just changing a color or small style element, MB&F prefers to donate a true piece of art.For the 2009 Only Watch event MB&F worked with artist Sage Vaughn on a piece unique based on the HM2. This latter piece focused on the crippling nature of the disease and was a beautiful, but dark piece that had barbed wire entangling the movement. For 2011 Max Busser of MB&F wanted a more uplifting message. As the type of muscular dystrophy the charity seeks to combat is incurable, the idea is that the children can only escape in their dreams. So recently, I am on the phone with a particularly enthusiastic Italian man who is telling me about Vittorium. He speaks to me like Vittorium is his child - no his family name - in a particularly enthusiastic manner that only Italians can seem to have mastered. Vittorium is a brand that until recently was totally unknown to me. Which makes sense as there isn't a lot of advertising and more or less little presence so far in the US. Vittorium has been around for a long time actually - but only recently started to brand their own watches - prior to such being a supplier for other brands. So the Swiss brand explain by the Italian brand has my attention. And who better to convey the qualities of the watches - which themselves have an undeniably Mediterranean style to them.As almost totally Swiss made watches, the pieces have a good prices. Stopped a couple hours after taking it off the wrist and can barely wind. Is not the first time this happened and I use the chronograph on occasion but only for few minutes. Anyone have these issues with 44?
