Christie's Tests Online-Only Watch Auctions
Major auctioneer Christie's is currently running their first ever "online-only auction," "The Essential Watch Collection" These days, we're all accustomed to researching watches online, and then, very likely also buying them online. Major auctioneers have for a long time been trying to get a piece of the "eBay pie," and the plan is to approach the sale of vintage watches online by offering a curated, safe environment where watches are vetted by professionals and available through a trusted source.Christie's isn't outright saying it, but "The Essential Watch Collection," populated with 22 watch lots is a test. For the most part, Christie's wants to determine whether there is a market to sell desirable vintage watches from popular brands such as Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe and more, online. If so, this would create a lucrative corollary business to their live auction events. This particular auction is running from October 1 - 8, 2013.Of course, the Christie's name is world-renowned, hav
Historical Perspectives: (Possibly) The World's First Perpetual Calendar Wristwatch, From Breguet, Revisited On Leap Day 2016
Here is the "Dollfus" Perpetual Calendar, nicknamed after its original owner – sold at auction in 2011, and not seen in public since. Though it's well known in enthusiast circles both by name and reputation, we thought today – Leap Day – would be a great opportunity to look back at this historic watch - the first perpetual calendar wristwatch. When this particular watch was first sold, the price to the new owner, Mr. Jean Dollfus, was 11,000 Swiss Francs. It was a lot of money then, and today it would be considerably more, but even the inflation adjusted price pales in comparison to what it fetched at auction at Christie's, in 2011: $475,618. It's obviously an enormous sum of money, but the price becomes easier to understand, when you understand what the watch represents. 1 OF 4 It's quite simply one of the most important vintage wristwatches ever made by Breguet, and perhaps the single most important perpetual
UK AP & Golf fans only - Ambassadors Cup Day
AP holds an annual Ambassadors Cup golf day each year. This year the event is being held at the stunning Sunningdale Golf Club and Ian Poulter will be on hand for some or all of the day and I believe there is also a nice dinner too! This is an exclusive invite only AP event and the date is Tuesday 21st May. In the past there have also been a few AP branded golf items for the winning teams.I was originally invited as just a single place but I now have the opportunity to make up a four ball. Does anyone on this forum play golf? - I don't mean 'pitch and put' and I certainly don't mean can you get round a course in around 200!If this is something where you could be 100% reliable to be a part of my four ball, would love to spend a day talking AP and golf and would love to meet Ian Poulter then please respond to my thread. This is a fantastic offer for a true AP fan and golfer. Thanks, Ashley.
Welcome to Planet Ocean!
The Omega Planet Ocean ref 2201.50 arrived today and I picked it up at the local post office. It is a gorgeous watch, better in person than my photos.... dial is really easy to read. Came with the inner and outer boxes, purchase receipt from the original owner. The three cards (Int'l warranty, chronometer cert and Pictograms) came with the watch undated, purchaser name unmarked, but stamped by the AD.Here are photos of them. Please excuse the white balance!
372 with water resistant oem straps
G'day everyone..Just got myself a new original panerai LUMINOR CALF CASHMERE strap. Most importantly for our hot humid climate, these new straps are water-resistant!Personally I think the color of the straps is a perfect match to the 372. Feels good too! The padded straps suit 372 more than the oem vintage non padded strap IMHO. The padded ones makes it look newer ie moving away from the DNA... Hahaha... Well I am in for the sake of the water resistances feature more than anything else. Anyhow, let me know what you think! Some pic to share... HAGWE jamesJust in case anyone who is interested to order one, here is the link to OFFICINE PANERAI website...panerai/en/accessorie...-calf-cashmere
