Turning The Crystal Upside Down: Clever Method Of Placing A Magnifier Lens
It was probably Rolex that pioneered the use of a magnification lens on a watch's crystal over the date to enhance the wearer's ability to see the date. They were most likely to first to use this technique although it is unclear whether they invented the concept. Since Rolex starting using magnifier lenses, it has been a controversial watch feature. While most people don't need the magnification lens (sometimes called a "cyclops") to read the date, it is a nice addition to have when you want to know the date at a glance. And for some people, the date is just too small to be read without squinting.Rolex put the magnifier lens on the Submariner (not Sea Dweller model) watches and the Datejust models (among other Rolex watch models). The placement of the date and magnifier was specifically chosen where it is, because if wearing a watch on your left hand, it was the first part of the watch that emerged from your sleeve, allowing quick reference to the date. Sometimes we get rid of a piece and regret doing it. I have been without this for a couple years and so glad to have landed one. Just such a great wrist presence, love it or hate it not too many with more pop.

Nothing like a Panerai
About 15 years ago, I was leafing through a Magazine and saw a model wearing a Panerai Radiomir. I had no idea at the time what it was, but I was absolutely smitten with this watch.Fast forward, I have owned about a half dozen Panerai, and currently own 3.Panerai experienced some wild fanfare several years ago, and much of that has cooled. Many of the older classics are highly sought after, and prices have come back to a more realistic and obtainable level. I tend to not follow the pack, so for me, this recent softening of the market is just fine. I really would like to pick up some classics like a 009, 201A, etc etcAnyways, to this day, as much as I enjoy Rolex and many other brands, nothing gives the feeling of a Panerai.Enjoy your weekend!
