Ulysse Nardin Acquires Ebel’s Chronograph Caliber 137
Ulysse Nardin has taken another step toward manufacturing independence by purchasing the rights to Ebel’s proprietary Caliber 137, a chronograph movement originally developed for that brand in 1995 and recently used in Ebel’s 1911 BTR collection of men’s watches. WatchTime talked about the new acquisition with Ulysse Nardin CEO Patrik Hoffman, who elaborated on the company’s plans for the nearly 20-year-old caliber and its little-known connection with Ulysse Nardin’s own perpetual calendar movement. Ebel has in recent years put more of an emphasis on its ladies’ models and shifted its focus away from high-end mechanical watches for men, which is presumably the reason that the company, according to Hoffman, approached U.N. about purchasing the rights to Caliber 137. “Ebel does not want mechanical chronographs in its collection and will not use that movement anymore,” Hoffman said. “We acquired all of the ebauches, the tools, the plan
Limited Edition - Royal Oak Offshores - "Too Much of a Good Thing?"
Hello All,I just wanted some general opinions on the wash of Royal Oak Offshores that are Limited Editions. It seems like AP puts out alot of Limited Edition Royal Oak Offshore watches and I'm not sure how I feel about that.On one side, I like that the limited runs of 'unique' watches is a constant in their product portfolio - thus offering those customers the opportunity to own very singular pieces, but on the other side, I just feel like it's such a marketing ploy to drive up retail prices of watches with 'new materials' etc...What do you all think/feel? Is the constant offerings of Limited Edition Royal Oak Offshores Too Much of a Good Thing? Thanks,
Red Sea- Dweller 126600, should I go for it?
Hi, I would like to ask for your advice!Currently I have a milgauss 116400GV, a submariner 116610LN, a gmt 116710BLNR, and a gmt 16700 Pepsi.I have been waiting patiently for a new Daytona 116500LN.Yesterday I got a call from my dealer, and he offered me the opportunity to get a brand new Sea-Dweller 126600 at the recommended Rolex retail price!I wasn't really looking for it, but given the fact it is a difficult one to get and the possibility to buy it at this price, do you think I should do it?Thank you all!
Rolex - sacrificing one market for the sake of another?
We first saw it with the SkyDweller, a piece that people thought would never be introduced in SS, yet a few years later, here we are. Today, a SS Pepsi that looks EXACTLY like the PM BLRO (source yourself an Oyster bracelet, and you've got a 1:1 copy). No doubt, this alienates the PM crowd and would push them towards other (PP, AP) brands. I get that the SS customers must be ecstatic, but what about all the former PM customers? This is coming from a SS customer interested in my first PM piece...it makes me second guess going after the DayDate, as they'll probably release one in SS soon enough.
Browsing at a non AD
This weekend we were at a mall in Broward County. The mall has several jewelers and most are non AD. We were browsing and one young salesman saw my brother in law and i were both wearing SS Rolexes. He says they have some preowned Rolex. Would we like to see them.? Of course we would! While looking at his small stock, he looks at my brother in laws kermit and says, that's the joker. i said are you talking about his watch? He says yes. Lol...i said um, no thats called a kermit. If you were thinking of the all green model, it is called the hulk. I then mentioned i was not opposed to purchasing a preowned watch as my first Rolex was a preowned serti sub with the diamonds and sapphires on the dial. While he was talking about looking to find a sub for $2500 to $3000 for himself, i found a picture of my serti sub. I show it to him and he says, that's a yachtmaster right? I was like, um no. ...the yachtmaster has either a gold or platinum bezel depending on the model such as stainless
