Cartier Calibre Watch Now With Bracelet
The Cartier Calibre is not only Cartier's new flagship men's watch, but also their new flagship case to to use for high-complication men's watches. The Cartier Calibre model debuted last year, and came only on a strap. The Calibre was further not just a new piece for men, but a decently priced high-end timepiece with an in-house made Cartier automatic movement (the 1904-PS). Mid 2010 I asked Cartier if they offered a metal bracelet, as it seemed logical that they would. The answer at the time was "no," but as of recently the answer is "yes." Here finally, is the lovely Cartier Calibre watch on a metal bracelet. You can say a lot of things about Cartier, but one of those should always be that they put in a lot of effort into the refinement of their watches. The cases are always attractive looking (even if they aren't your style), and they have an impeccable reputation for quality. That is not however always true with their clasps. Because they don't often use locking clasps they can loos
Bring a Loupe: An Early Look At The Christie's May 2016 Auction, Featuring Some Masterpieces From Breguet And Patek
As we at HODINKEE like to do, I am thrilled to give you an early look at some of the highlights from the May 2016 auction season – here with a focus on our friends at Christie's. We already know that cross-town rival Phillips has a special, stainless-steel chronographs sale planned for the weekend of May 14th in Geneva, but that doesn't mean Christie's isn't going down without a fight. In fact, based on what you'll see here, it's fair to say we are in for an absolutely incredible weekend of watch sales. Let's get down to it. The Earliest Patek Philippe 530 Oversized Chronograph In Steel, With A Sector Dial 1 OF 12 This 530 Steel is the earliest known example, dating back to 1938. Okay, we'll start with the most exciting watch to me. This thing is downright insanity, a true grail watch for me personally. What you're looking at is a reference 530 – the oversized Patek chronograph from the vintage era – consid
New Strap
Last year I purchased a SuperOcean II 44 Special. It originally was supplied with an Ocean Racer rubber strap with tang buckle. While this strap is great for diving (I use a short wrist lanyard looped through one of the holes for added security), I recently ordered a Military Rubber strap with deployant buckle. IMO this is a much better look for this watch and is more comfortable. I included photos of the before and after.
New Look For PO
Hi guys Got myself a new strap for my 42mm PO.I know how you all like pictures so I thought I'd share...Ordered this direct from Austria...IMG_1559.JPGHirsh Jumper Black Croc with orange stitch. Came with a tool & new spring bars.IMG_1560.JPGI fancied a new look without spending a small fortune. I sent the PO for a service and it came back all lovely & polished but after a couple of months the clasp's starting to show signs of wear, IMG_1562.JPGThis is my first attempt to change straps. The tool was the wrong size but I managed to get the bracelet off with a bit of fiddling.IMG_1563.JPGGetting the new strap on was pretty easy, although I did put it on the wrong way round at first & had to swap it back round again!!IMG_1564.JPGWorn it for the rest of the day and could hardly take my eyes off it, Almost like having a whole new watch..I love the orange stitching, it's nearly an exact match to the bezel in the right lightAnyway sorry for the long post, hope you enjoy the pics.
