Parmigiani Ovale Pantographe Watch
A long time ago English watchmakers Vardon and Stedman produced an oval-shaped pocket watch with telescopic hands designed to be properly sized (in length) no matter what part of the dial they were pointing to. You see, back then people cared about stuff like proper hand size (ahem...) on dials. Parmigiani apparently acquired the piece and restored it in 1997. The complicated mechanism, while not new, was very unique and they called it a pantograph (pantographe). The idea of hands that follow and match the contours of a dial is very cool, and in 2011 Parmigiani produced a limited edition watch with a pantograph complication. For 2013, the Pantographe is back as part of a new watch collection from Parmigiani with lovely oval cases called the "Ovale" collection. The star of the collection is the Ovale Pantographe, and it is a non-limited and updated version of the model from 2011. Not only is the Ovale Pantographe attractive, but we think that Parmigiani really has something special and u
Best Of: Audemars Piguet Watch Museum
It is ironic (and sad), that literally a week or two after I visited the Audemars Piguet Watch Museum in Le Brassus, it was burglarized! Yup, flat out heist. The thieves scaled the sides of the building with a ladder, broke into a window and ran off across the border into France with some watches. I am not sure what they were able to run off with. The museum is designed such that the exhibits are each in highly secured "vault" style rooms. Meaning that if you break into one room, chances are that you aren't gonna get into other rooms. I wonder what they were able to get. Some of those items are likely pictured here. Audemars Piguet and European police are clearly after the thieves, but a job like this requires a highly sophisticated client who wants the items for themselves. Not like you can sell one of a kind stolen watches on the open market. Everyone is gonna know they aren't legitimately for sale. While I truly hope the stolen pieces are recovered, some might not, and images like th
With The Androgyne, Manufacture Royale Defines A Category Of Its Own: The Neo-Steampunk Wristwatch
Manufacture Royale is relatively new to the scene of independent watchmakers, having begun operation in 2010. Since then, the brand has positioned itself in the relatively crowded space?by offering a number of models with brash aesthetics and, notably, beautifully?designed in-house movements. One of these models, the Androgyne, distinctly symbolizes?the brand's unusual design ethos and commitment to technical dexterity.Undoubtedly, the case is the first thing you'll notice about the Androgyne. It is, shall we say, rather uniquely designed?with 52?components in total, including a system of multi-part articulated lugs that are intended to conform to various?wrist sizes. Seen here in PVD-coated, gunmetal-finish stainless steel, the 43 mm case is anything but discreet. But in all honestly, I doubt that discretion is of?paramount concern to anyone interested in this watch C the Androgyne is meant to be worn and to be seen. 2 OF 11 The unabashedly-designed cases could well be d
One more poll for you all to ponder over
Now ignoring the obvious price difference of these two wonderful timepieces which one would you pick.Personally I'd like to add them both to my collection, But taking into account the demand for the Hulk plus others talking of increasing costs not to mention the waiting time to get hold of one it's seems more likely the one to choose.I'm currently on the waiting list for the Hulk which is around 2 years in the UK...Whereas there is only around a 3 month wait for the other. What are your thoughts 😕
Sub like new
I finally got my Submariner back from the AD in Englewood, Colorado. I have to say that it shines like a new watch although I originally bought it in the Base Exchange in the early - mid 70's. I paid about $175.00 for it because it was a return and didn't have any box or papers. I plan to gift it to my step son in a week or so because he is the kind of man you hope your daughter will bring home from college .To complete the deal I would like to tell him the vintage of the piece and I'm hoping someone here could close the loop for me so I can tell him some of the history of it:model: 5513ser. no:6128020I served in Southern Command from mid-1970 through late 1975 and I think I bought the watch early 1970's.Thank you.Jerry Crawford.
