7 “Tribute to the Military” Watches
Wristwatches have long been useful tools in military life, and over the years various watch brands have created special timepieces to honor certain branches of the armed forces and those that support them. Here we re-present our updated list of seven “Tribute to the Military” watches. IWC Schaffhausen, a watch brand with deep roots in making military-grade pilots’ watches, introduced its Big Pilot’s Watch Top Gun collection in 2007. Created in cooperation with the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, known widely as “Top Gun,” the collection was expanded in 2012 with the addition of the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Miramar, a distinctly military-styled watch named for, and paying tribute to, the area in California where the Navy’s elite Top Gun pilots receive their training. The Top Gun Miramar (also available in a chronograph version) has a big, 48-mm ceramic case and anthracite dial. The hands and chapter rings are in a camo
Hublot Celebrates United States Liberty Medal Award
The Liberty Medal is given to men and women of courage and conviction who strive to secure liberty to people around the globe. Past recipients include Nelson Mandela, Shimon Peres, Stephen Spielberg, Kofi Annan, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and Bono. Hublot has partnered with The Constitution Center and the Liberty Medal to create a special limited edition timepiece to be presented to recipients of the award. Find the price and wallpaper inside. Only 100 examples of the limited edition Liberty Bang will be produced. This 45 mm timepiece has a black ceramic case and bezel. Its black dial features inspirational words from the founding fathers about the Constitution. The phrases are inscribed in red, white and blue using an innovative laser technology.“It is truly an honor to create a timeless piece representing the values of the Liberty Medal” said Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver. “Freedom and liberty are not gifts to be taken for granted, and we admire, and are inspi
Sinn EZM9 TESTAF Watch
For 2014, German tool watch maker Sinn has released a new piece in its EZM collection called the Sinn EZM9 TESTAF. What you have here is an interesting watch that is meant for pilots, but really wants to be a dive watch. Essentially, the Sinn EZM9 is a three-hand version of the 2012 EZM10 (hands-on here). We loved the EZM10 and our appreciation extends to the EZM9, even though it is among the pricier three-hand Sinn timepieces out there. As part of the EZM "Einsatzzeitmesser" collection, this Sinn is built to last and perform just that much better than others. Having said that, this model doesn't have Sinn's Diapal technology (discussed here), like the EZM10 - which is a lubricant-free part of the movement. Then again, no three-hand Sinn watches have Diapal as of yet, so it isn't that big of a deal. Nevertheless, there are some really impressive features in the Sinn EZM9. Inside the watch is a Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic movement (which is more or less the same as an ETA 2824).The 44m
Full Pave: A Collection Of Diamond-Studded Swiss Watches
It wasn't until I needed to go ring shopping did I really learn to appreciate diamonds. As a guy, I just always assumed diamonds were for women. Sure some men have diamond rings and earrings - but that hardly represents the norm, at least here in the United States. Diamonds are a sure-fire sign of wealth, but they also represent the most basic and arguably unsophisticated form of luxury features - being really shiny. Though it does help their cause that diamonds are inherently rare. What I do however love, are watches. So what happens when you combine these two things? The "full pave" (or totally diamond covered) watch in the United States is often a simple code for "I have too much money, and perhaps not as much taste." While jealousy might have something to do with those thoughts, it is true that simply covering something normal with diamonds is a less than difficult (albeit expensive) way of adding luxury. That would be ignoring a lot of the really nice diamond covered watches out th
