Michael Friedman Appointed Horological Director of Antiquorum USA
Antiquorum has announced that Michael Friedman has been appointed Horological Director of Antiquorum USA. Mr. Friedman will oversee all U.S. auctions and private sales from Antiquorum’s U.S. headquarters on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. Michael takes over the position from Charles Tearle who was named Head of Antiquorum’s Asian division in August of last year. Friedman’s career in watches and clocks began in 1996 at the Willard House & Clock Museum where he held the position of Assistant Curator and also apprenticed to conservator David Gow. In 1997, he joined The National Watch & Clock Museum as Curator where he co-developed 15,000 square feet of new exhibition space devoted to the history of time measurement. In 1999, Michael was named Vice President and Department Head of Watches for Christie’s in New York. After successfully growing sales and bringing many new collectors to Christie’s, he founded MLF Horology in 2003 which provides consulting an
Van Cleef & Arpels Pont des Amoureux Watch
This is a very interesting and nice to look at women's watch from Van Cleef & Arpels. If I was a woman, then I would likely start saving up for one. Pennies, nickles, and dimes until I reached $116,000. The watch is the Pont des Amoureux, which means lover's bridge. The complication makes it such that the two figurines? connect at midnight for a "kiss." This was no easy task actually. Check out this image of the watch internals. Just a small part of this area is dedicated to the manually wound mechanical movement. The rest is for the complex retrograde minute and hour hands.? The watch is also in 18k white gold, with lots of diamonds, and the dial is totally hand painted. A real piece of art work with what Van Cleef & Aprels calls a "poetic complication" - how sweet.Read more about the Van Cleef & Arpels Pont des Amoureux watch on my article at Haute Living here. Vintage Omega Bracelet question
Hi folksHope some here with deep experience can help answer a question on whether I can get a replacement bracelet to work with my old Omega Automatic.First, the case number is 166.070, polished stainless, and the lugs are sized for 18mm end links. The original bracelet is no longer made and I've exchanged email with Bob Frei to choose a suitable replacement. I'm looking at the Omega Bead of Rice bracelet model 3010 but there are 3 different end links (511, 512, 514) they offer for that one. Even Bob is stumped on which would work. I have a call into Omega but not holding my breath on a definitive answer there. So the question is, which compatible case number from the list associated with the 3 end link choices makes sense? To see the bracelet/end links, here's the link: .ofrei/page1280.html I know this is a lot of detail but I didn't want to be vague on such a precise question. The watch itself looks like this:
I finally joined the family...
After many years of being somewhat interested in Panerai, I finally decided to get one after seeing one up close when I saw my long lost friend while on holiday in London a couple of weeks ago. He was wearing a 372. I tried it on and liked it a lot but unfortunately I thought it was too big for my 6.75 wrist. I searched for something similar and found the 560. Simple yet stunningly gorgeous. I bought it last night from a local AD at a fantastic discount and wore it to a wine tasting tour in Napa today. Here are some pics.
Why so manywatches without boxes and papers?
Hello All - Very new to the forum - and to Rolex....Looking at purchasing my first Rolex (Sub Date). I'm leaning towards used at the moment. My newbe question:Is there a legit reason why 95% of the watches I find have no box or papers included? (I find this especially true with dealers... Not as much via private party)I've read lots on the forum about the pros/cons to having the complete kit, and I understand it all... But I feel like I'm missing a piece of info as to why so many are box/paperless - even ceramic subs that are a year or two old.
