Images from WatchTime’s NYC Hublot Event
This past Tuesday night, a select group of WatchTime friends attended an invitation-only event with Hublot at the elegant Park Avenue Autumn restaurant in Manhattan. About 50 attendees enjoyed an evening of delicious food and wine, fabulous watches, and a chance to meet Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver, U.S. president Beatrice de Quervain, Hublot’s Mike Margolis, and WatchTime editors Joe Thompson, Mark Bernardo and Amy Bernstein. Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and an opportunity to meet top Hublot executives, and to try on Hublot’s newest models and rare high complications. Following cocktails, dinner was served, and Mr. Biver gave an entertaining and informative presentation. Each attendee made a generous contribution, the entire proceeds of which were donated to Smile Train, an organization providing free cleft surgery for poor children in developing countries. And now, some images from the evening, which you may enlarge with a click. The venue. Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve 2010 Watch Award Winners
Last night was the watch industry's annual big award show gala event - the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve (GPHG). These are our Oscars, and the 2010 winners are interesting. A few surprises, and a lot of watches that just keep winning. I was invited to the ceremony, but was unfortunately unable to stick around in Europe long enough after my last trip to go this year. Next year I will go, and might just sport a Timex!Surprises that I am happy to see? Seiko won the prize for the best Sports Watch with the Spring Drive Spacewalk Commemorative Edition watch. MB&F won for best Design & Concept Watch with their HM4 Thunderbolt. The best Men's Watch prize went to Laurent Ferrier for his Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Balance Spring watch, that I am proud to say was first introduced by me to the world on the Internet here.Really happy about everyone that won. Here is the full list.- The Grand Prize of L'Aiguille d'Or (the Golden Hand ): Greubel Forsey - Double Tourbillon 30 Edi
Hands-On: With The Blancpain Tribute To Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung (Live Pics)
Despite what you might assume, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms can be considered the original modern dive watch. To pay homage to this classic, Blancpain released the Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung, a modern update keeping the original design features of the original Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung. Today we go hands-on with this fitting tribute. 2 OF 10 15.4mm-thick Case Quite literally, the biggest difference between the original and the tribute is size. Vintage Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lungs (like this one from the 1950s) are about 37mm, while the tribute is a substantial 45mm. And while at 15.4mm thick, the Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung is a hefty watch overall, the case is nicely contoured and wears nicely for a watch of its size. The dive style sail canvas bracelet helps a lot here. 3 OF 10 The Tribute To Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung's Decorated Movement Size aside, the Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung has a lot of the design features of the original
5170 vs. Duometre a Chronographe
Yes, I know, I know, there is no comparison between the two in terms of finish and shine, plus the Patek will retain value better.Mechanically speaking, which of these two beautiful watches is going to be more accurate chronographically speaking? Does the dual-wing design add additional accuracy that you will not get in the clutch design of the Patek? I know that JLC pushes that idea, but do you all think this is true?Which one do you think is more of a collector's item mechanically speaking? Which is a more robust design?(I'll keep in mind that this is a Patek forum...)
Would U Trade: Kermit + DJ41 + $ for a Day-Date white gold?
I am contemplating trading my 50th Anniversary Kermit and my fairly new DJ 41 on Jubilee plus cash for a white gold day date with either black or white dial. Figured I would do a sanity check and see what you all think!
