Rolex Sky-Dweller Watch
Each year at the Baselworld watch and jewelry show the most anticipated news is what behemoth watch brand Rolex will release. This is a quizzical thing because what Rolex announces is often anything but revolutionary. Still the successful and closed watch brand seems to excite their loyalists with the new creations each year - often times small steps in anticipated directions. Rarely does Rolex offer something totally new - especially a new model or complication. Oddly enough - both of these things happened for 2012.Rolex typically releases mere line extensions and small features updates (if that). Typical "exciting" announcements include new dial colors, perhaps a new strap, or something offered in a new material. The major new release for 2012 is the Rolex Sky-Dweller, an extremely rare new Rolex model, with a new movement, and with a never before seen complication for the modern brand. Say hello to an annual calendar. Rolex sure didn't invent it, but it seems revolutionary when incl
Bit by the Speedy bug...!
I have been back and forth on my next purchase for a long time now...I've been contemplating either a 16570 or Speedmaster Pro.Considering a PN Daytona is my grail -- the Speedy with a panda dial mod down the road makes it an easy choice (either a Mitsukoshi or SE release - assuming it would even be possible to still find one of these dials).I actually never tried a Speedy on until today (most likely I was subconsciously avoiding it assuming the consequences). I headed down to an AD during lunch today and found it even better looking in person......what to do...what to do....

Got the call...
Got it yesterday, at 2:40pm, the kind of call you say yes instantly, along with thank you and I’m on my way... BUTYour AD is doing you a gigantic favor and they’d prefer you pay with cash (understandable from your point of view)... Well it’s Saturday afternoon and Christmas is Monday, you can’t get 5 figures of cash until your bank opens Tuesday and the AD tells you they’re actually closed Tuesday too. Maybe they’re celebrating Boxing Day in the states? Okay, you’ll have it Wednesday, :waiting:...Merry Christmas TRF!!! My gift (which was well worth waiting for) comes two day after Christmas.
The Holy Grail has arrived...
I finally broke down and did it. This past Saturday I went into the AD and bought my first Rolex. I've been lusting after this watch for the better part of a decade, and I finally found the right time in my life to make it happen. I'm the kind of guy who normally wears one watch for several years at a time and doesn't really rotate watches based on my mood or the day of the week. With this watch I wasn't only buying a wristwatch, I was conscientiously buying a family antique that will be passed down to the next generations, conscientiously buying an extension of myself that I will wear for the rest of my life, conscientiously buying an item to celebrate important life events which invariably add meaning to the watch, conscientiously buying it to celebrate achieving personal goals I set for myself, conscientiously buying a watch in order to make practical use of the very functions that it employs. When I wear this watch it tells a story of a lifelong love of watches, aviation, adv
