Watch Experts Network: ‘Geo. Graham Tourbillon – watch review by ESCAPEMENT’
Angus Davies falls for the charms of the Geo. Graham Tourbillon, a slender timepiece equipped with a micro-rotor and tourbillon. This watch reveals another side to the brand which takes its name from the legendary English clockmaker, George Graham (1673-1751).I always find it fascinating to hear third parties describe my children. At times, I immediately recognise the person they are describing. Conversely, there are occasions when the person they mention does not sound familiar and I struggle to assimilate the person they characterise. On reflection, this is not surprising. I have a professional persona which I present to fellow journalists and representatives from watch companies, but I also have another side to my character which chooses to behave like a fun-loving teenager, quaffing life in hearty gulps.Graham, the Swiss watch brand, based in the watchmaking haven of La Chaux-de-Fonds, has always been synonymous with large cased, avantgarde timepieces. The Value Proposition: Sexy Robot: The Grand Seiko Quartz SBGX061 With Caliber 9F
To a diehard mechanical watch fan, the idea that any quartz watch might be something you’d call a value proposition – much less a quartz watch costing thousands of dollars – might seem ridiculous, but if you’re of a certain turn of mind there’s a kind of integrity and purity to be found in Seiko’s Grand Seiko quartz watches you won’t get anywhere else. Grand Seiko mechanical watches, of course, are generally considered by serious watch lovers to be one of the best things to happen to watchmaking since Huygens stuck a spiral spring on a balance, and Seiko Spring Drive is a reminder of Arthur C. Clarke’s adage that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic – but quartz? What’s there to love about a quartz watch? Specifically, what is there to love about a two and a half thousand dollar quartz watch? 1 OF 11 Well, as with many things, a little understanding of the basic problems the quartz
Omega advice needed
Hey fellow Omega aficionadosI have been buying fairly heavily into Rolex over the last 6 months and have gathered an early 64 Explorer, a 1680 Red Sub, a transitional 16800 with crazy tango lume, a new TT GMTIIc and most recently a new WG Sub. Oh and also a Rolex Tudor (panda dial) Oysterdate. I am now turning my attention back to Omega as I feel a status change coming over the next 3-5 years and was wondering what you guys and gals feel would be a nice addition or two to my collection. It can be new or old but probably max size of 40mm. Currently, my Omegas are a pre-moon 69 Moonwatch (currently on an Ofrei racing strap but I also have the original bracelet with the angled omega sign), a 58 international series small seconds on alligator, a black face 67 Seamaster date on the original 9 row beads of rice bracelet and lastly a frankenstein 1931 (originally a gold pocket watch) conversion. Any ideas welcome and a brief reason why? And to whet your appetite, here's a few pics of the on
