Introducing Russia's Konstantin Chaykin And His Unique Cinema Watch
Konstantin Chaykin is quite a rare bird in the world of independent horology, in that he works outside of Switzerland. Chaykin is the only Russian member of the?Acadmie Horlogere des Crateurs Indpendants (ACHI), the professional body for independent watchmakers that counts the likes of Philippe Dufour and Kari Voutilainen?as members. This alone makes Chaykin and his work interesting, but the fact that he's also developed an entirely new complication made us take a closer look. Here is a first look at the Cinema watch, housing a nineteenth-century style mechanical animation. The Cinema was released earlier this year at Basel World. It is called the Cinema because of its unique complication, which simulates an early style of mechanical animation. The aperture at 6 o'clock reveals an animation of a horse running. This animation is based upon the Zoopraxiscope, a seminal invention in the early days of cinema invented by English photographer Eadward Muybridge in 1879. The Zoopraxiscope sh
AR Coating on PO8500 - how durable is it?
Recently I saw a FS post that the seller had declared there are scratches on the AR coating when viewed from an angle.I wonder how durable/resilient is the AR outer coating on the PO?I have a habit of rinsing my watches with mild soap and water after wearing. To dry it, I clean it with an old face towel. Will this action be harmful to the AR coating? Thanks!

This watch is on my grail list but it is impossible to find. I know one of us here has one but how hard is it to get and what is the process?
Phillips auctions
So I'm looking at the final bid prices on some of these watches on the Phillips Auction site from November and they are incredible. Some pieces I get, but others like a 1973 SS DateJust went for $47,000!? Seriously? I'd say $3,500 is the going rate. Also a PVD coated 2008 Milgauss for $87,500! Wow! Am I missing something. I think some of these bidders got caught up in the moment!
Hard decision: Explorer (36 mm) or dark rhodium Yacht Master (37 mm)?
Hello, for a male I have a rather small wrist (only 17 mm) and my every day watch is an OP Date (34 mm).Next, I plan to buy a sports watch, but almost all of the Rolex watches I have tried on are way too big or just feel awkward on me. As for now, it only comes down to a 36 mm Explorer (114270), which would have to be pre-owned. (Again, the new 39 mm feels too big.)On the other hand, I could just wait (and save) for the new 37 mm dark rhodium Yacht Master (268622). I have tried on a 35 mm YM (168622) and with 2 extra mm it could just fit right. So what do you guys say: go for a decent used Explorer or wait for the new YM?Thanks for your opinions!
