This is an interesting limited edition watch that combines everything I like about diving themed watches and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak lines of watches. Bearing the name of "Wempe," a? line of luxury watch stores strategically placed all over the world, this limited edition of 175 watches is rare and very cool. This watch was created in honor of Wempe's 100th anniversary. The iconic eight sided octagonal Royal Oak watch bezel was never the type of design that was good for a rotating bezel - so Audemars Piguet inserted an internal bezel that resolved the problem of not having a round bezel. The internal uni-directionally rotating bezel is operated via the crown positioned at 10 o'clock. The case is 44mm wide and steel. A rose gold version was also available, but was not as good a value costing 2-3 times the price of this version. Review of the AP ROC QEII Cup LE
As some of you may know, I am a die hard PP collector/enthusiast. That's not to say I don't appreciate other brands...it's just simply where I choose to put my horological investment. So that being said, let me confess, it takes something pretty special from AP to really get my motor running. Over the years there's been a number of these special pieces from Le Brassus I have pined for...but until recently never acted upon. Back in the spring when I saw the press release for the Royal Oak chronograph QEII Cup limited edition, I thought to myself I have to have one! So after months of searching, hours spent surfing, etc...I finally have one. Let me just say the search was worth it in the end, this piece is truly amazing.Upon opening the box and seeing the watch for the first time, I immediately noticed how the metal had a somewhat of a muted grey-hue to it that clearly distinguished it from stainless steel. I thought I would try to summarise the key benefits and drawbacks of buying a new Patek (new from an AD) versus pre-owned. Obviously only in relation to references that are part of the current range.Benefits:-Price - a significant saving can be made by buying a pre-owned Patek from a private seller or unofficial dealer.
