Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in Yellow Gold (Updated with Live Photo & Price)
At SIHH 2016 in January, Audemars Piguet has gone for what many would consider old-school horological luxury releasing a new version of its Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in classical yellow gold. Why yellow gold, you might ask a material that has in recent years fallen out of vogue in the watch aficionado community. Audemars Piguet, whose motto “To break the rules, you must first master them” is on bold display here, refers to it as luxury watchmaking’s “most elemental material… the universal emblem of indestructible beauty, energy and light… symboliz[ing] wealth and power.” Like the most recent models of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, in steel and rose gold (and more on which can be discovered here), this watch has a 41-mm case in the classical octagonal style of the Royal Oak collection and featuring a clear, glareproof sapphire caseback. It has a screw-locked crown, ensuring water-resistance of 20 meters. The au courant b
DeWitt Twenty-8-Eight Regulator A.S.W.
At Baselworld 2010 DeWitt debuted their first in-house movement – Caliber DW8014. This year the movement will appear in an all-new watch, the Twenty-8-Eight Regulator A.S.W. The automatic-winding movement boasts notable technical features at each end of the gear train. The mainspring is wound by a bi-directional peripheral rotor that allows an unobstructed view of the movement. The mainspring itself incorporates DeWitt’s patented Automatic Sequential Winding (A.S.W.) system which allows the single barrel to distribute constant energy to the gear train while delivering a 72 hour power reserve. At the other end, a Straumann balance spring with a Phillips terminal curve powers deadbeat seconds that are in direct contact with the tourbillon cage.Outside, the watch pays tribute to Art Dco design, and in particular to 1930s New York. The 46 mm round case is made of 18 carat rose gold. The multi-layer dial is dominated by a four-column vertical structure with the tourbillon at it
Hands-On with the Mondaine Helvetica 1 Smart Watch
About a year ago, I attended a press conference in San Francisco where Frederique Constant and Alpina announced their newly developed "Swiss Horological Smart Watch Platform". Analogue watches with health tracking capabilities that actually looked like real watches. It was an interesting concept, and a more clever reaction to the incoming "smart watch" genre than slapping a logo on a digital watch. To do this, they had teamed up with MotionX, a Silicon valley company with a lot of experience in the health tracker world. Beyond the functionality, they made sure the watch was made to last longer than typical pieces of tech. It was designed to be efficient, with a 2.5 year battery, and has a modular design where parts of the movement will be able to be upgraded for a small fee. I really liked that they made it, to some extent, have the permanence of a real watch. It's truly a shame that most smart watches will end up in landfills within a few years of their purchase. They also announced tha
Which springbar tool?
Hi, I recently picked up the 44mm Speedmaster, which is 21mm between the lugs. I was wondering which SB tool I need to buy, in order to change from bracelet to strap/NATO? I just came from the Omega Boutique and they did the change for me after picking up this NATO. Thank you,
Thoughts on swapping SS Sub-C & BLNR bracelets?
Picked up a BLNR from my AD on friday. I also have a SS Sub-C. When i got the Sub-C last year i was also looking at GMTs but really didnt like the polished center links on the bracelet. Well i got the sub and since then the polished center links kinda grew on me so i grabbed a BLNR. Now that i have both im debating on selling the sub-c but looking at them side by side i just love the sub-c brushed links and glidelock clasp. I believe i can simply swap the bracelets and they will fit, correct? Someone mentioned u can swamp the bracelets but not the pins..make sure u swap the pins so the orginal ones stay with the watch to insure they snap in correctly??? So if i can do that i just might. But my main concern is resale value. What do you guys think?
