Close-Up: Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman” (With Video)
Black for? the night sky, blue for day these colors just make sense, but if you expected to find them on the bezel of one of the world's most famous GMT watches, the Rolex GMT-Master II, you would have been disappointed, until recently. We take a look at the Rolex watch that has been nicknamed “Batman.”New bezel colors don't usually generate a buzz heard round the world, but this is Rolex. The bezel is the story here, so we'll continue down that road. It's fashioned from Cerachrom C Rolex's version of ceramic, and though the bezel is two colors, it is a single piece. You might think Of course it's one piece; they just paint it two colors, but that's not how Rolex does things. Vintage collectors may love weathered, faded bezels, but today's versions are built to last, so nothing is painted. The bezel is formed as a single piece, and in this instance, the whole thing starts out blue. Black is added to half of the bezel early in the production process when the ceramic is
It's Karl Time! Lagerfeld's New Watch Collection By Fossil
Fossil may just be trying to recreate the magic it experienced with its Michael Kors relationship in producing their watches. Back in November I helped debut Karl Lagerfeld's new quirky collection of fashion-forward timepieces here on Departures. Back then we were given a mere glimpse of the new collection, but the message was clearthe typically high-end Lagerfeld brand was going mass-market with its timepiece collection. A tactic employed by many fashion brands when entering the timepiece field, but the opinion on whether to go high or low remains divided.Emporio Armani went low-end, also using Fossil as a manufacturer for its watches. Ralph Lauren went decidedly high-end. And from Burberry to Ermenegildo Zegna, to many more, you'll find everything in between. It brings up the interesting question of how a high-end clothing maker could or should enter the world of watches. To people like me, buying a watch from a fashion label should be an "honest" experience. The timepiece should be
New Straps for my PAM 000 from The One and Only Gus/Subtona!
I've wanted for sometime now to add other straps for this was and my PEPSI but just now getting it done. I've really admired Gus's straps on his 000. When I inquired and one I thought looked really great he got back with me right away but he also mentioned he'd sold the watch and had some bands he'd consider selling. I bought 3 of the 5 even though his 7.5 wrist is a bit bigger than my 7 wrist. The band actually could still go one smaller so I'm very happy with the fit. I'll work on getting pictures with the other bands but this is the one I put on first. image.jpg
Definition of a Grail watch?
This is probably obvious but honestly I feel like everyone's definition of grail watch is so different that sometimes it confuses me. Originally I thought grail watch is a watch that's just too expensive but then unless we are talking about those watches over say a million dollars and that are super limited in who can even buy them, most watches (especially those people sometimes call grail) are technically affordable as they are typically cheaper than a car or in the more extreme cases a house. They may not be something you want to spend the money on, but that's a choice. The other definition I was guessing was that it's a watch that one watch to rule them all in that once you get the grail watch, you are set for that watch for the rest of your life? If that's the case, then no one would be flipping grail watches. So what's your definition of a grail watch? What makes it your grail?
Got the call today for my first ever!
Ive been on a couple lists for just a short time frame so it was totally unexpected that I got the call today. My first watch is going to be The Hulk! Snow is moving into the area but if I can get there tomorrow it will be mine. This after a BLNR deal fell through on me just yesterday, I was pretty tore up. Cool thing is the AD said I was local, a business owner and had actually stopped in the store to talk to them to prove I wasn't trying to flip so Im the guy that got the call. Told him to keep me on the BLNR list and maybe, just maybe I can talk him into putting me on the list for a ...... oh crap, I cant even say it. At 53 years of age having admired the date just and TT blue submariner my entire life its finally happening!
