Bring a Loupe: Four Lots To Watch At The Bonhams New York Sale TODAY (Think Amagnetic Patek & Oversized Universal Compax)
As the 2015 auction calendar comes to its end, New York City takes center stage. While the much awaited Speedmaster auction takes place at at Christie's next week, there's also a more under-the-radar sale at Bonhams today – and this catalog may have been slightly overlooked, so there's a chance here for collectors to find great vintage watches without too much bidding competition. Let's take a look at four lots you should watch out for this afternoon, including a very interesting Omega Speedmaster with a bearish estimate. Patek Philippe Reference 3417 Amagnetic 1 OF 9 Quirky would probably be the best word to describe the Amagnetic from Patek Philippe. It combines the classical elegance of a dress watch with a characteristic (resistance to magnetic fields) of a tool watch, something absolutely unique in Patek's offering until the introduction of the Nautilus in the mid-1970s. First, the case is in stainless steel, a very rare metal for vin
AP RO as a daily driver
Hello all,I have always been into vintage Rolexes and Omegas. Never considered a AP until now. However the Royal Oak has been growing on me every time I see it. I have heard though, that they are not as robust as, say, a Sub for daily wear. Combine that with the fact that service cost for an AP is much higher than what RSC charges (which is already thievery IMO), I am interested to know what you as owners of the RO feel. I am looking at the 15300 or even the 14790. My wrists are 6.75 and I also tend to gravitate towards smaller watches.
New 5296r or pre-owned 5146?
Hi guys,I've been chewing this over for a while now and would appreciate any input. Of the 5296 I'm certain that it would be the R non-sector version, I love the clean lines, applied indices and class of a watch that really doesn't shout but whispers class (poetic licence there, sorry). I'm also attracted to the idea of new. For around similar money a pre owned 5146 is also possible, but on this on not sure if which variant. I wanted a gold watch but the white gold G version seems a better combination than the R. This would probably be my last big watch purchase ( I'm sure that's been said a million times before) so I don't want to get it wrong. Fwiw I'm lucky enough to have a blue dial 5711 so this would be a companion piece that I would probably wear more often.Any thoughts or suggestions welcome
Bluesy
How long do you guys believe the current bluesy with the ultramarine dial will be available. Is it better to buy used from a trusted seller on the site or new from adSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
