MMT 'Horological Smartwatch' Platform Ties Switzerland To Silicon Valley
Ever since the smartwatch became a thing, I have been preaching that companies need to pool their resources and talents to create something that consumers want. A new type of smartwatch platform called MMT (Manufacture Modules Technologies) was just announced out of partnership between a series of companies both in Switzerland and in Silicon Valley. This isn't a big deal just because it means the small but crowded smartwatch market has a new face, but because, in my opinion, it represents a wise step in the right direction of how the Swiss luxury watch industry needs to integrate itself into the smartwatch world. Welcome to the MMT electronic watch movement family and the Horological Smartwatch.Peter Stas, CEO of Frdrique Constant / Alpina, wearing the Frdrique Constant Horological Smartwatch Reference FC-285V5B4Who is behind MMT? HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 149: Inside Rolex
After two days inside Rolex (see today's article, "10 Things To Know About How Rolex Makes Watches"), we have no choice but to share our experience with you. Rolex doesn't allow photography so we tried to express the tale from within using our own words. John, unfortunately, was not there, but I am joined by Rolex historian and expert Jake Ehrlich from Rolexmagazinewatches-dealer who was. If you are interested in Rolex in any way this is a must listen.Listen to the HourTime Show watch podcast episode 149 here. Download the mp3.
Poll - Choose The Best Three Watch Collection
If you've followed my threads recently... I will start by apologizing for the obsessiveness and indecisiveness I swear I'm getting close to making a decision. This is pretty simple. Choose the trio you think works best all around as a collection/rotation. Here are the options...A. Tudor Black Bay Black | Rolex 116610LV | Rolex 116680B. Tudor Black Bay Black | AP RO Offshore Diver 15710 | Rolex 116680C. Tudor Black Bay Black | Rolex 116610LV | AP RO Offshore Chronograph Elephant I am always happy to hear opinions and discussions regarding my poll, but as I previously conceded, I've nearly beaten this subject to death recently so I'm not insisting on you all taking the time to justify your positions. I would really like to just see some hard numbers.A.B.C.
Aquanaut at CL Final
So I was lucky enough to get tickets to this year's Champions League final in Cardiff. As the stadium is only about 30 mins drive from my home I was able to work in a weekend at home with the family as well. (I work in Qatar in the Middle East). A couple of weeks ago prompted by an incoming thread from 'topcat30093' I followed up on an order I had placed back in December for an aquanaut. I was told 12-18 months initially as an expected wait time but lucky for me the AD told me he thought he could now get one within two weeks. So I flew into the UK on Thursday, picked the watch up on Friday and proudly wore it to the Final last night. Here's a pic of my new aquanaut at the game.
