What's The Favorite Watch Of Christie's Watch Department Boss?
William (left) with Christie's International Watch Department Head Aurel Bacs (right)& A Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 (middle)Christie's, the renowned auction house, will have yet another "Important Watches" auction event in Geneva on November 11, 2013. Here in New York, I personally received a special preview. I was excited when my good friend, John Reardon (Senior Vice-President, Head of Christie's New York Watch Department), invited me to today's preview event. From past experience, I knew that I would have the chance to see and touch some of the world's finest timepieces which once again equates to a lot of Patek Philippes and Rolexes. While taking in the watches (more on that later) John introduced me to Aurel Bacs, the Head of Christie's International Watch Department. Known throughout the watch world for his discerning eye, I had to ask about his favorite watch. When a man is surrounded by millions of dollars of spectacular watches all day, every day- what gets him excited?Patek
Talking Watches: With Jose Bautista
José Bautista crushes baseballs for a living. In 2010, the former part-time player exploded on the scene for the Toronto Blue Jays with a Major League-leading 54 home runs. He hasn't slowed down since; over the past six seasons, he has hit the most home runs in baseball. (Bautista finished the recently completed 2015 season with 40 home runs; his Blue Jays begin the playoffs on October 8th against the Texas Rangers.) And so when all that success led to a lucrative, multi-year contract, José decided to reward himself by rekindling a childhood passion: watches. This is your official HODINKEE Talking Watches with Toronto Blue Jays slugger José Bautista. 1 OF 23 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Safari Edition 2 OF 23 When José decided to get back into watches in 2011, he first purchase was the AP Safari – and to this day it maintains a special place in his collection for that reason. He appreciates that it works both with
AP ROO or Ceramic Diver?
I have the 2014 AP ROO in Royal Blue and think about switching to Ceramic Diver. Is that a good choice?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415571017.320578.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415571052.106110.jpg
How much to sell Breitling Aerospace (one of twelve)
Ive got a Breitling Aerospace Titanium that was given to the military pilots after the MS Estonia accident. One of twelve made.It got a special dial and some paper proving it from Breitling. It was rarely worn by the pilot and box and papers are complete.Do you think its worth more then a normal Aerospace, or do Breitling do this spacial series all the time, making it nothing special? For those of you who dont remember MS Estonia.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_EstoniaThe accident claimed 852 lives (501 Swedes, 285 Estonians, 17 Latvians, 10 Finns and 44 people of other nationalities: 1 from Belarus, 1 from Canada, 1 from France, 1 from the Netherlands, 1 from Nigeria, 1 from Ukraine, 1 from United Kingdom, 2 from Morocco, 3 from Lithuania, 5 from Denmark, 6 from Norway, 10 from Germany, 11 from Russia), by drowning and hypothermia, (the water temperature was 10C–11 C/50–52 F). One prominent victim of the sinking was the popular Estonian singer Urmas Alender. 93 bodies were reco
Buying my first Rolex: Explorer I or Submariner
Hello everyone,I have been reading this forum for a while now, interested more in technical details than anything else, but this is my first post.I have been a watch enthusiast for many years, since I was a kid really, my first watch was a Casio F-91W, and also had Swatch, Seiko, Tissot, Hamilton, Alpina, Orient Star and Nomos along the years.I also would like to mention that I am not a watch collector, and recently decided to sell all my watches and become 'a 1 watch guy'. This watch I would like to be a Rolex, that can also be a family heirloom and pass is down to my son who is 3 years old at the moment. I am attracted to this brand because of its history, quality and reliability. This is where I would like to ask for your advice, I have narrowed it down to 2 models: the Explorer I and the Submariner 'no date'.Which of these two models would be longer lasting with normal wear? Also (this might be a silly question, sorry for this) why is the Explorer I considered a sports model when it
