Auction Watch: July 18th Deals To Be Had At The Fellows Auction
The following timepiece auction analysis post is by Chris Meisenzahl. He is a long-time watch enthusiast and daily Speedmaster Pro wearer. He blogs at The Pretense of Knowledge and can be followed on Twitter at twitterwatches-dealer/speedmaster.Fellows is a UK auction house, established in 1876. For this auction the estimate range is a fairly reasonable £200 - £50,000. Clearly not pocket change, but there are dozens of pieces in there for a person looking for a deal, or just filling out a themed collection.I see that the most expensive (that is, expected to bring the most money) item in the auction is a Rolex with a range of $61,600.00 - $77,000.00. It’s lot #486, a “platinum automatic Oyster Perpetual Day-Date bracelet watch circa 2006.?But here’s the problem, the thing is covered with about 4.0ct’s worth of diamonds (see pic)! I’m sure all aBlogtoRead readers realize this isn’t a watch so much as a piece of jewelry. So we’ll move on. 😉If you’re a new collector or just
Should I be concerned?
So was giving my 15400 a quick rinse/cleaning and just as I had put it under the faucet, I realized that the crown was out. I literally had it under the running water for less than 2 seconds before I noted it and immediately dried it off and screwed it back in before continuing. And it wasn't like the water was running right on the crown/stem. Question is should I even be concerned about any water potentially getting in there? I'm thinking no but would love to get some reassuring comments from you all. Thanks!
Incoming Speedy!!! But can't wear it...yet.
Finally my new Speedmaster 3570.50 arrived today! However, it seems this bracelet is one that needs a professional to adjust. Anyone try to adjust it on their own? Anyway, can't wait to actually wear it!
Anyone Catch NCIS (Omega Plug)
Special Agent Anthony Dinozzo as switched to a new Omega Planet Ocean with the Orange Bezel. He used to Sport a Submariner. Not sure why the down grade . But whatever reason they sure showed the watch up close and personal at least 3 times that I saw.In the movie 'Minority Report', Detective John Anderton, played by Tom Cruise, sported a Speedmaster Professional X-33, while another Cruise incarnation in War of the Worlds saw his a vintage Omega chronograph stop as the aliens touched down on Earth. Also FBI agent Fox Mulder of the X-files has been observed with a Deville Prestige to help him keep track of Greys and other suspicious extraterrestrials, as did Robert Dean, Enemy of the state as portrayed by Will Smith. We all know the Bond switch was paid for by Omega but are all these others paid for as well or does this happen to be the Actors watch? I thought Cruise was a DJ guy?Omega seems to be cornering the movie market. With all the plugs does this mean Omega will be going up in p
Do you authenticate your Patek if not bought from the AD?
Just wondering how you guys go about it.Would you pay the Patek Service Centre to Authenticate the watch? Or do you have a specific way to be sure yourself?I know it is hard to replicate such a detailed watch like the Patek, and surely it should not be hard to know when wearing the watch, looking at the dial, the case back movement, etc. Also wondering if all Pateks have the Serial number visible on the case back?Surely matching that with the papers is the way to go. Doubt that can be forged. What do you do generally when purchasing from another seller?
