Keeping You On Time: Central Watch In New York City
Many trains and hubs have been built America, but in most places we don't use train stations like we used to. A major exception to this is Grand Central Station in New York City. Probably the most famous train station in the USA, Grand Central station is a piece of history, and an enduring testament to industrialized people moving.Trains also needed to be on time. Brands like Ball and Hamilton like to discuss their heritage in making "railroad" watches that were used to reliably keep trains running on schedule. Aside from train tracks, the second most important type of fixture in a station are the clocks. Time is inherently linked to train stations, and checking your watch to make sure you don't miss your train is part of the experience.Give this notion, and the simple fact that it was a good place to catch people on a daily basis, 60 years ago a small watch repair stand opened in Grand Central Terminal simply called Central Watch Band. Mir Watches Hands-On
Simple is harder to achieve in design. When something lacks bells and whistles it is more vulnerable, easier to pick apart and scrutinize. As such, it is a risk for a brand to pursue something simple and clean. But, when simplicity is achieved, there is an unmistakable beauty that comes along with it. This leads me to the actual topic of this article, a relatively new brand of watches from Sweden, called Mir.?Mir didn't set out to do something terribly new or innovative, they didn't use fancy materials or shocking colors, they just made a pure expression of a 3-hand watch that lacks pretention. With a dial design that is sparse, but well balanced, a calf-leather strap that is refined, but basic and hands that add just the slightest bit of contrast, the Mir watches are more about style than substance. One look at their very well directed photography will confirm this. They set out to make a watch that can be worn by anyone and in any situation, and I think stylistically, they succeed
Incoming... It's been a while!
Oscar Bodybump found something for me after we just did a deal yesterday... Luckily he accepted my return as part of a deal towards something few have ever seen in person, and I don't think many (if at all) own on this Audemars subsection. The big reveal will be tomorrow! Panerai - Health Warning Required : May Seriously Dent Your Wallet
So bought a 112 to compliment my rolex lvc a fortnight ago, as I've been hankering after a Panerai watch for a little while.Did the inevitable and visited my local Panerai stockist to order an additional strap (assolutamente).Helpfully and suspect cunningly, the very helpful sales assistant let me try on a 422 to see what the strap looks like in the flesh. After a week of deciding and having my wife pinch my 112 as she loves it, I bought the 422 today.I know they said buying a Panerai could be addictive for the straps but this is altogether a different proposition. Both watches are great by the way and can't see the rolex getting much wrist time now - just looks too small now.A true Panerai convert
