Audio: Excerpts from our Interview with Arnold & Son Watchmaker Sbastien Chaulmontet
In WatchTime’s March-April 2014 issue, on sale March 18, technical editor Mike Disher gives you the skinny on Arnold & Son’s Ultra-Thin tourbillon watch, the UTTE, in an in-depth watch test. Click below for audio excerpts from Disher’s one-on-one interview with the man behind the watch, Arnold & Son’s head of movement development, Sbastien Chaulmontet. In the interview, Chaulmontet discusses the technical challenges he faced while designing the UTTE, including the need to develop entirely new tools to create the tourbillon movement; and the steps he made to make the movement durable despite its remarkable thinness.
Temption CGK205 Watch
Temption is one of my favorite boutique German watch brands, and will release this new version of their CGK collection soon. The CGK205 is the follow up to the CGK204 (based on the CGK203 - which I reviewed here). The collection houses a decorated Swiss ETA Valjoux 7751 automatic movement (a 7750 with an annual calendar, moon phase, and synced 24 hour hand), and lays out the dial info really nicely. For the CGK205 Temption refines the design a bit and ads a new metal bracelet option. I think it looks stellar. While the CGK205 doesn't offer a lot new, these are limited production watches from a boutique brand that is hard to get. For me the design is a fantastic mixture between form and function - but not everyone will have the same sense of taste. What I think the watch does well is take the design of the CGK203 and mix it with the CGK204 is a more conservative and classic manner. For me this watch is more exciting than the CGK204 because it updates the design but includes what I loved
AT reference number help?
Can someone provide the reference for the AT 41.5mm 8500 with brushed bracelet? I'm not a fan of the PCLs on the newer version bracelet. Also, is the version I am asking about still available at ADs?
Pining for a 5726
Hi,Been lurking a bit. I recently bought a Rolex Daytona to accompany my IWC Pilot, yet apparently that last purchase did not satisfy my craving. So the last few weeks I've been looking at Pateks, and I seem to have honed in on the 5726/1A (with the steel bracelet). In either black or white dial, I'll have to decide that in person. Leaning towards the white, it looks positively awesome (plus both my IWC and Daytona are black dial). I'm a wearer, I don't buy the watches to keep in a safe.I've got a bit of travel coming up, which is usually when I get around to looking at the watches in person and buying them. With that said, I'm wondering what availability of the above watch is like. Can I expect to walk into an AD in a larger city and pick one up? Is there usually a wait for these models, or just lack of availability? While the 5726 is a favorite right now, I would not rule out a 5712 or 5711 either.I realize that this will vary depending on city and AD, but I'll take any help I can get
Hacking Panerai movements
Another silly question.......................Is it possible to hack the movement of a Panerai, specifically the P.9000 and P.2003, to stop the seconds hand at 12 o'clock? When setting my watches after a period of not wearing them, I like to set them to the exact time. Not a deal breaker but curious
