6 Things to Know About the Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb Hurricane Grand Voyage II
Christmas really comes to Geneva in January, when a host of watch brands present their new releases in the city and get a jump on the spring fair in Basel. One of Zenith's debuts this year was the Academy Christophe Colomb Hurricane Grand Voyage II: a new, richly decorated take on the Christophe Colomb model from several years ago. The watch has a number of distinctive features, so here we'll take you through what you need to know about Zenith's latest.1. That's not a tourbillon you're looking at.The dial opening at 6 o'clock might look like a tourbillon at first blush: the balance wheel is visible, and there's a bridge of sorts crossing the center of the aperture. But look again and you'll find Zenith's patented Gravity Control system. This gyroscopic mechanism facilitates consistent timekeeping: it keeps the balance in a horizontal position no matter how you turn the watch. Like the gimbals that would counteract the effects of gravity on classic ships' chronometers, the Gravity Con
Dievas MG-1: Weird but Wonderful?
Some things are just so odd that despite an initial negative reaction they become appealing. They look strange and might not make total sense conceptually, but like the VW Type 181, aka the Thing, they get under your skin, and eventually you just like it. That's basically what has happened with me over the last few days and the newly released Dievas MG-1. At first glance, I thought, ugh, another oversized diver. Then, a little while later, I felt an urge to go back and look at it again, perhaps to confirm what I had seen. Did it really lack a bezel? Was the bezel really that wide? what color was that dial again? The more I looked, the more I got pulled in.Dievas is a curious brand that we've written about a few times on w&w, but not in a couple of years. German made, but Singapore owned, they are a mix of homages and rugged tactical watches at fair, but not cheap prices. In the tradition of other German-made tool watch brands like Sinn and Damasko, Dievas cases are often CNC milled
AP T3 edition question
Does anyone know if not all the Terminator AP's included the DVD box set along with the watch?I was told by an AP dealer that only the first initial shipments were sold with the DVD box sets of the terminator movies. The rest of the T3 pieces were shipped without the attached case of movies..Is there any truth to this? I was under the impression that they were all sold with the dvd sets. Would love to put this debate to bed if anyone knows different?
AP Movements
Does AP ever supply movements to other companies? Someone said Chanel may use AP movements in some of their watches. Can anyone confirm or deny? And if so, are they standard AP movements or something different?TIA,-Marc
