Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends March 14, 2014
As spring approaches, we check out new watches from Panerai, Bovet, Christophe Claret, F.P. Journe and many more. We also find out how time is kept and measured; pay a visit to Roger Smith on the Isle of Man; find out more about the story of one man's hunt for his grail watch; and get a rare sneak peek into the workshops of one of the biggest brands in the world, Rolex.1. Panerai Luminor 1950 PAM557 Destro 3 Days Watch Hands-On: A Lefty PAM372If you love watches from Panerai, the new PAM 557 Destro 3 Days Watch should be one to look out for. It is essentially a left-handed version of the earlier and extremely popular PAM 372, which I reviewed, and it was only announced this year at SIHH. Here's a quick look at this new highly anticipated watch.Source: watches-dealer2. Panerai Help
I need help picking out my next Panerai and I am out of the loop. I like the 389 and the 335 so far upon preliminary research....But I have not been following Panerai for several years so a crash course about which models out there might meet my criteria and any suggestions would be great!44mm or largerMust be in house and NOT manual windI prefer the 1950 case Ceramic, titanium, steel or gold is fine I LOVE chronographs but not sure any Pam ones are out there with in house?Obviously doesnt need to be chronographAny help would be greatly appreciated!
Explorer vs. Oyster Perpetual
I will soon be reaching into my wallet to purchase my first Rolex. I'm interested in the Explorer #214270 and the Oyster Perpetual #116000. I have a few questions. Do all authorized dealers in the US have the same price? My local dealer quoted $4,750 (Oyster) and $5,700 (Explorer). Second question--would one of these watches retain it's value better than the other? Any comments on either (or both) watches would be appreciated. Thanks
Could be a really stupid question...
Hi guys,I've had a lovely watch box for Christmas but my Rolexes are quite tight when fastened around the suede cushions. Will this stretch the bracelets over time? I have a DJ 41 on jubilee and GMT Master II LN on its oyster bracelet. The cushions don't seem to bend like the ones in the Rolex box do - I'm therefore thinking of using the Rolex ones as they fit nicely in the box. Am I being stupid in thinking that the bracelets could become stretched over time with the non bendy' cushions?! Many thanks in advance and I await the potential ridicule!
Daytona prices plummet with new release...
Watching Lord Sugar wearing his ceramic Daytona last night a thought passed through my mind...When Rolex announce their revised Daytona next, the one with the minor tweaks to give it a new reference, will the market be flooded with the old ceramic model (the current one) by all those owners who then must have the new kid on the block? Those owners are currently sitting pretty in the knowledge they can sell their used Daytona at a premium, but will its value suddenly drop the day the new model is announced, as thousands panic sell to get the best price they can before their Daytona market plummets? If I were Rolex I'd be thinking... Hmmm... that was a great success. Let's tweak it a little, push the price up a little, and get it to market soon. Then, repeat every couple of years. What you you think the Daytona's life-cycle is, and the effect the next ceramic model will have on prices of the first one?
