The History Of Dive Watches
There are many things we take for granted when speaking about modern timepieces, and one of those is water resistance. There are no "water proof" watches, as that implies water would not be able to enter them under any circumstances, so we use the term "water resistant." The history of water resistant watches really began in the 1920s, but it was not until later that the serious water resistant diving watch came into existence. Today dive watches are the most popular type of sport watch, not necessarily because people use them to dive, but because of their style, promise of durability, and utilitarian value.Regardless of whether one pays a few hundred or several thousand dollars for a watch, they rightfully expect reliability, accuracy, and comfort. Having said that, we are rarely reminded of just how much time it took wristwatches to transform from fragile pieces of art into workhorse instruments that can put up with most of the challenges we expose them to during our daily lives. Stallone Brandishes PVD Panerai Luminor Marina Watch In New Rambo Movie
I am pretty happy that the new Rambo movie was as watch-centric as it was. Through the intensely blood-bathed action fest are numerous shots of watches on the characters' wrists. Sylvester Stallone's John Rambo adorns an interesting Panerai watch. It has been a Hollywood tradition for sometime that popular movie characters have a watch fitting their nature and status. We know of the James Bond Omegas and the Terminator has an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak specially made for Schwarzenegger that is worn proudly. Rambo prefers the popular and stylish vintage looks of Italian Panerai watches. It is a well known fact that "Sly" Stallone is a big Panerai fan. Rumored to own hundreds of the cult-loved watches, Panerai has even made custom models just for Stallone. One such model has Stallone's autograph engraved on the back and the moniker "SLYTECH" on the face. Watch companies are wonderful in that regard; if you have enough leverage and money, they will make any manner of custom model for you.
How many more logos & crowns can or should Rolex place on their timepeices?
With certain models now maintaining several plus rolex crowns on the timepiece, including the etched words rolex in numerous locations, what do you think is too much? Are we getting to a tipping point where our beloved watches may boarder on overkill, or forbid tacky? We all know it’s a rolex right...the person sitting next to us can clearly see that too, but how much more branding does one really need or want? Too much of a good thing is not necessary always a net gain, but are we there yet? At what point is one more crown or rolex branding logo too much? Where do others see rolex’s branding strategy going long term? Are we going to eventually have 14+ crowns on timepieces a decade from now? Overall…I’m ok where it’s at, but tastefulness to tackiness is a fine line and when I look back over time there are typically fewer branding marks on previous generations fwiw. Interested to see what others think.Thanks.
BLNR Wallpaper
Was looking through the rolex website's wallpaper and there were no BLNR. I made some adjustments to the current BLRO instead Just sharing if anyone is interested. 1920x10801600x900
