SIHH 2013 Preview: Ralph Lauren Sporting World Time
The 2013 Salon International de Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), in which many luxury watch brands introduce their new models for the year, doesn't take place until late January, but one of those brands, Ralph Lauren, has offered us a preview of one of those new watches, called the Sporting World Time. The latest addition to Ralph Lauren's Sporting collection, the World Time watch has a rotating disk engraved with the names of 24 world cities, each representing one of the world's major time zones. The disk works with the second time-zone subdial at 6 o'clock (which also has a day-night indicator) to indicate the time in another zone. The dial, which has a varnished, deep blue finish, also includes a date subdial at 2 o'clock and a semicircular power-reserve indicator at 10 o'clock. Other hallmarks of Ralph Lauren's Sporting collection on the dial include the white transferred Roman numerals and white, transferred railroad-style minute track. The hours and minutes are indicated by Breguet-style h
Adults Only: Perrelet’s Erotic Dial Limited Editions
The themes of Perrelet’s previous limited-edition Turbine watches have ranged from patriotism to auto racing to the Chinese Year of the Dragon; its latest are targeted to more, shall we say, prurient interests: the Turbine Erotic collection, which feature decidedly adult illustrations behind the spinning, dial-side rotors.So-called erotic watches which feature bawdy images on their dials have been around at least 200 years, and remain an obsession among some collectors. Perrelet’s venture into this niche focuses on a very specific genre called hentai, a racy style of Japanese manga aimed at adults. Each of the four dials features a different miniature hentai painting, executed primarily in black and white with just a touch of red. What gives these watches a sense of voyeurism is the design of the dial. As with all Turbine watches, the image on the dial is partially obscured behind the “turbine blades” of the rotor (as shown below) and becomes visible only whe
Pasha de Cartier Skeleton Flying Tourbillion
In 2009, Cartier introduced its first timepiece in which skeletonized bridges in the form of Roman numerals acted as the dial of the watch. This year Cartier takes this art to a new level with the limited edition Pasha de Cartier skeleton flying tourbillon. Find wallpaper and pricing inside. The Pasha is one of Cartier’s design icons. In the past, the case and dial captured the eye first, but in this new interpretation, the movement stands front and center. The Calibre 9457 MC has a specially developed flying tourbillon escapement. For the first time, its bridges take the form of Arabic numerals, which have always been one of the distinctive design elements of the Pasha de Cartier watch. This model has a diameter of 42mm and a Geneva Seal movement where empty space contrasts with depth and textures created by hand-applied finishes such as beveled bridges, satin-brushed sides and circular-grained wheels. The stylized and engraved 3, 9 and 12 frame the flying tourbillon's carriage a
Hopefully going to join the Patek club tomorrow..
So I have been saving up for my grail watch which was the AP 26300 Panda dial. I recently sold my AP moonphase to a member to help fund my grail and while saving I saw a nice 5165 fo about the same price so that threw me a curveball. I really like the aquanaut but like the SS bracelet and the 5165 did not have that option so I wrote it off. I love the 5167 but did not have the will power to save for a couple more months so I was about to get the 26300 when I got a PM from a member asking me if I want to buy his 5167.. I declined becuase I did not have all the money saved yet so he offered to take most of it now and the rest in a couple months when I got it. I offered him a watch as collateral but he declined saying just pay me when I get the rest... I must say WOW this forum is the greatest!! People on this forum are the most generous people I ever met!! This is not the fist time , I had someone send me a 1.25 super jubalee link for my datejust and let me send him the money after
Would love your opinion
Is a Datejust 41, blue face, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet a bit too flashy for everyday casual wear?At bit of context... I'm 46 in a professional, but casual, setting. No one around has any watch game. I'm typically in a polo with a sweater vest. I'm wanting to venture into that Rolex but don't want it to stick out too much. Plan on the watch being an heirloom that I can pass down to my son but would be an everyday wear. I've heard that fluted and jubilee don't show scratches as much as the smooth on oyster. How much is that a factor?I keep vacillating between smooth bezel on oyster and fluted bezel on jubilee. I'm not much on the Rolex options with numbers on the bezel like the Sea Dweller or Sub-Mariner.I'd love the collective wisdom of TRF.
