TNT Challenger Black Luna Watch: Something Old, Something New, Something Awesome
Torsten Nagengast is a German-born timepiece enthusiast who has crossed the line. And by crossed the line, I mean took the final step a watch enthusiast can take: from collecting fine timepieces to crafting them himself. Already lauded for his work on handmade projects featuring reclaimed historical movements as well as an impressive one-off Unique Repeater in 18K with diamonds, Nagengast is now preparing to launch his next timepiece, branded TNT (Torsten Nagengast Timepieces), as an affordable triple calendar moon phase chronograph to be called the Challenger Black Luna. This is a follow-up to the similar?WatchUSeek Edition Rattrapante watch from September 2013 - that no doubt comes from the same person, but does not yet have the TNT branding.Quite frankly, we get a lot of Press Releases from start-up watch brands attempting to stir media enthusiasm about their new wares. While we do our due diligence to investigate and report on them to you, our dear readers, very few of them oft
Hands-On: The Cartier Hypnose
This year at SIHH we saw a lot of releases from Cartier. The Drive for men was big news, but one new release you may not have seen yet is the Cartier Hypnose. This collection is the latest addition to Cartier's women's line. While the oval case shape is not new for Cartier, they have managed to reinvent it in fresh and modern way. 1 OF 8 First, a little background on the Hypnose and its shape. Although this is a “new” watch, it is by no means a new design for Cartier. The oval design was first created by Louis Cartier in 1912, and the the oval-form watch was later put into production in 1956. The design was recognizable by its balanced oval shape and the bulbous nature of the the bezel. Originally available with a bracelet (notably an oval-linked version) or strap, it was the ideal ladies' watch – and featured a caliber 495 movement produced by LeCoultre, which was back-wound to conceal the crown and preserve the design (something that is pra
Which watch should I dump?
I'm really liking the Moonphase but 1 watch has to go its either the Omega SMP or the Tudor HBB both are similar value and the two I'm least attached to so my friends your thoughts?
5167 dial question
As you can guess, I'm considering this one. I read how the dial is chameleon like and shimmers, etc. Basically, a lot of praise of this dial.Well, I saw a 5164 yesterday as I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 5167; however, I didn't find the dial all that chameleon or shimmery. It seem very matte and muted to me.Case finish, amazing.Movement, amazing.Hand size, PERFECT.dial, ok.This is not mean to be a bash to the aquanaut, but more of a what am I missing here? You guys are smart guys. Was the lighting bad or something? Does it change with the light in the day? My LVc changes with a turn, I didn't experience that with the 5164. Maybe the dial has more going on with the 5164 complication that takes away from the dial simplicity and shimmer. Thoughts?
PP 5960 vs 5205
The 5205 wears quite small for its 40mm size. Does the 5960 wear bigger? Would like a Patek AC with day/date/month windows but my 5205r does look small on me - am wondering about trading up for a 5960r.
