Wolf Designs Viceroy 6 Piece Watch Winder Review
An interesting fact that I've come to learn is that many people (even quite a few watch loving people) have no idea what a watch winder is. It is one of those things that you can show people, in action, and they still don't know what it is. I've actually had people come to my office and see a bunch of watches in winders on shelves and remark "oh really? You have to show them off like that?" Which I later learned (after some probing) was a misunderstanding thinking that a watch on a winder was some special way of displaying them in a fancy manner. I just can't anticipate misunderstandings like that in advance. It is possible that I take for granted knowing what a mechanical watch is, and that I know how it works. There isn't a lot of sense required (in my opinion) to understand that a little weight in a watch movement winds it when you move your wrist around. Further, if you are not wearing the watch on your wrist, you can artificially create the movement necessary to keep that watch wou
Homage vs. Replica vs. Counterfeit
If you are a frequenter of any of the popular watch forums you most certainly have seen the discussion pop up regarding fakes, homages and replicas and each persons opinion on each. This is a common topic and often a heated one as some people have very strong feelings regarding one term or another. But, sometimes the discussion is muddled by varying definitions of the terms and which is appropriate in which situation. When this word is most often used it is in reference to a watch that makes its best efforts to look exactly like another watch only made by a different manufacture. The idea is to as closely replicate the real watch, hence the term replica. That does fit in with the definition
AP Quality Control
Hi All, apologies for the following rant, but just needed to vent. Recently I've become quite interested in purchasing a Royal Oak Chronograph. I finally found one yesterday and was ready to pull the trigger, when I noticed a very obvious scratch on one of the sub dials. The sales representative was very embarrassed and apologetic. He took my details and promised to call when they would get the next one in. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call later in the evening from the store, stating that they were expecting another one in this morning. The rep was extremely helpful and kept the watch sealed until I arrived. He let me open it and even removed the stickers for me to inspect it properly before purchasing. I tested the chronograph, and to my dismay the pusher got jammed, and neither me, the rep or his manager were able to stop or reset the chronograph. It's safe to say I'm really disappointed with my experience with AP so far. I thought I was very lucky to find a stainless ste
