Hard Timers: How Hublot Conjured its Magic Gold
The Hublot brand is known for its use of unusual materials, including cermet (a mix of ceramic and metal), tungsten, and something the brand named Hublonium (an alloy of magnesium and aluminum). Now the company has unveiled one more: a very hard and therefore scratch-resistant alloy of gold Hublot has dubbed Magic Gold. Click here to read our report on how Hublot creates it.Despite all the excellent properties of conventional gold, it is very soft. Measured on the Vickers scale, 18k gold has a hardness of 140. By comparison, the steel alloy that's commonly used for watch cases and bracelets, 316L stainless steel, ranges between 200 and 240 on the Vickers scale. Rose gold is slightly harder than yellow gold because there's more copper in rose gold. Magic Gold, however, scores nearly 1,000 on the Vickers scale.Hublot is not the first to introduce a harder form of gold. In 2010, A. Lange & S?hne developed a gold alloy for its 165th Anniversary Homage to F.A. Lange watch. It refers
ap ceramic diver as daily wear?
Hey everybody. This is my first post and i'm sorry if this topic has been discussed before. I would like to ask for your opinion of the ceramic diver as a daily wear. Will it be to fragile to endure the task of being a daily wear? I mainly work behind a desk but plan to wear the watch for clubbing, swimming, light diving, etc. My other concern is the weight. do you think it will be too heavy for daily wear? i currently own the novelty ss for my weekend watch and i dont think i can handle that sort of weight for my daily watch.
AP Marketing??
I was 1 month ago in the AP boutique in Paris, and asked to see the 15202, the lady told me that they didn't have any, that it was practically impossible to get, that they had 95 clients on waiting list, that basically they were going to have 2-3 this year, and wanted me to look at some chronos, I said I didn't want to see any other watch, she insisted, I started to turn around, and then all of a sudden she told me that they had one which was reserved that she could show me.Does anyone know if this story of the huge waiting list and microscopic quantities delivered to AD's is true or is it just to try to make people buy other models which are not so much in demand as the 15202?The retail price in Europe is 19.500 euros, and looking on Chrono24 I found a few BNIB for less, and of course without the waiting list, maybe it's the fact that I parked my Harley Davidson in front of the boutique, she thought I didn't know anything about watches, don't know much but still I have a little knowle
Omega Price increase
Just spoke to my AD and Omega, Breitling are going up 01/02/09.Some are going up by around 8.5% and others by around 11% but he said the average across the board is 10%He also said he wouldn't be able to do anything price wise regarding a discount once the increase kicks in which is a blow. Especially as he has a watch I want at the moment and would only give me 10% which wasn't good enough. It will have to wait.Anybody getting more than 10% from their AD's?Si
Urge to flip my 312
I try to wear my one and only PAM a week out of the month in rotation. But at most it's been about 4 to 5 days out of the month. However I'm starting to feel the urge that I need to flip it as it is very mint condition still. The top heaviness of the 1950 case I've gotten used to so there are no regrets on size. The PAM 292 rad looks appealing so does a 216570 exp 2 with black dial (I have a 16570 polar though). Also I can just use the proceeds to go towards a TT black MOP DJ my wife hinted as a push present. Is this a normal feeling? Secondary market doesn't look very good for PAMs, so I'm looking at a little bit of a loss if I decide to flip. What do you think?Sent from my XT1096 using Tapatalk
