Tutima Begins Deliveries of Its Hommage Minute Repeater
In summer 2011, Germany-based Tutima, known chiefly for its modestly priced pilots’ watches, unveiled a watch-world first: the first minute repeater wristwatch whose entire mechanism was built entirely in the German watchmaking town of Glash��tte. As of the beginning of this year, the company announced, deliveries of the eagerly awaited timepiece have finally begun.Tutima, a company that traces its history back to the 1920s, spent three years developing the movement for the watch, Hommage Caliber 800, incorporating several elements distinctive to Glash��tte watchmaking, such as a three-quarter plate and engraved balance cock (here, with a G Clef to indicate the watch’s melodious chimes). At SIHH today Lange unveiled their new automatic winding Saxonia Annual Calendar. Available in white gold and in pink gold, the diameter is a modest 38.5mm, but the design focus was legibility and the watch is quite easy to read. The look is pure Lange and this piece offers much of the visual appeal of its perpetual calendar big brother. The movement features the famous Sax-O-Mat zero reset function which stops the movement when the crown is pulled out and resets the seconds hand to zero to allow easy syncronization with a reference time signal. The moon phase is accurate to within 1 day in 122 years.
