Marcello C Rising: Watching The Growth Of This Impressive German Watch Maker
Marcello C is going places quickly. The growing German watch maker came out of the mind of an ex Oris master watch maker 15 years ago. Just when the mechanical watch was making a comeback, Marcello C started hammering out extremely high quality watches for unheard of low prices. At that time, the philosophy was simple; do not reinvent the wheel. Marcello C is not a design innovator, and it does not need to be. Marcello C excels at taking handsome, classic designs and making very good watches based on them. The most distinctive quality of a Marcello C watch is that the watch is built better, and functions with more accuracy that most watches costing twice their price. This direction has allowed Marcello C to take a lead role as one of the fastest growing small watch companies. Saving money on not having to test designs, they focus on quality. Let others make the mistakes and produce what the consumer clearly wants. Perusing the Marcello C collection, you will see all familiar faces. The
A Week On The Wrist: The Panerai PAM 560 Luminor Base 8 Days Acciaio With The In-House 8 Day Caliber P.5000
This is the most stripped-down watch in Panerai’s current collection and it also represents the entry level price into the world of Panerai in-house movements. It’s actually a relatively new movement – the caliber P.5000 was introduced only two years ago and back in 2013, HODINKEE founder Ben Clymer took a look at the watch in which it was introduced: the PAM 510, which has a seconds sub-dial at the 9:00 position. In case you’re not up on Panerai history, the use of an 8 day movement with small seconds is an homage to that history; Panerai used 8-day movements by Angelus in some of its earliest watches (along with Rolex movements based on Cortebert ebauches). 1 OF 7 The PAM 560 is newer than the movement – we saw it for the first time at the 2014 edition of the SIHH, and the feeling we have is that it’s part of a general move across the board to make all Panerai watches powered by in-house movements. We haven’t spent a tre
Introducing: The Villeret Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique 110 Years Anniversary Limited Edition, A Surprisingly Ornate Watch From Montblanc
Montblanc has just decided to surprise us with an anniversary piece that is, much, much more baroque than what we’re accustomed to seeing lately from the Villeret-based manufacture. This year’s collection, presented during SIHH, reaffirmed Montblanc’s commitment to high-end watches with classic features such as the Heritage Chronométrie Annual Calendar Chronograph and the 4810 Day-Date. That is, until its latest addition to the 2016 lineup. The Villeret Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique 110 Years Anniversary is a watch you’d expect from the likes of Richard Mille, and other independent names that are not bound by traditionalism or corporate behavior. But the slithering serpent sneaking inside its dial is not just there to provide a visual thrill or to provoke. 1 OF 2 Circa 1920, a "Rouge et Noir" fountain pen. It is a nod to the maison’s first fountain pen series, the famous “Rouge et Noir” collection, introduced in 1909. In fa

Finally, I grew a pair and decided to do this.
Discovering Laser Etched Crown
After having a Sub for a month, I just realized there was a Laser Etched Crown in the crystal. Looked at these watches for years and had no idea! Very little discussion on this counterfeit measure as well.
