Introducing the Steinhart Ocean One Vintage Dual Time
It's been quite some time since we've written about Steinhart, the German brand known for producing some of the most affordable Swiss-made watches on the market. But a few days ago, the company sent out a press release that caught our collective attention. Today, we have the pleasure of introducing Steinhart's latest addition to their Ocean line, the Ocean One?Vintage Dual Time.As you may have guessed, this isn't an original design from the brand. Rather, the Ocean One Vintage Dual Time is Steinhart's take on the legendary PanAm Rolex GMT, a watch first developed by Rolex in 1954 for Pan American World Airways. Pan Am was the first airline to offer commercial international service, and as the lore goes, the airline worked with Rolex to create a watch that could meet the needs of the company's transatlantic pilots. Pan Am's executives were apparently quite jealous of the pilots and their new toys, so Juan Trippe, the head of Pan Am at the time, decided to squelch the discord by commissi
Buying an older Patek that has sat in a safe
Good morning, I am looking at a Patek 5712/1a and have been offered a reasonable deal on one that is still factory sealed in its coffin box, but which dates back to 2008. Is this something I should avoid ? Should I factor in the cost of an immediate service ? I have read a lot of debate on the forum about the settling of oils, though I would have thought a 2008 watch was modern enough that the synthetic oils used would remain evenly coated across the train and the watch would be as good as new. As a relative newbie, however, I may be showing my ignorance. Also, are any of the Patek experts here aware of any changes on the 5712/1a between 2008 and today ? In pictures it looked to me that the dial is now perhaps a lighter shade of blue, but that may just be a trick of the light. Very grateful for the guidance of the forum.
Incoming! My First PP...TRF Enabling Successful
Really excited that I am fortunate enough to own my first PP. Big thanks to a good friend's guidance and help in order to acquire this watch, and I couldn't be any happier!!Owning a Patek has always been a grail, and lately all the enabling here in the PP sub-forum is out of control!! (in a good way ). I'm just glad that I can now help enable others I always thought I would pick up an AC Patek when and if I purchase my first PP, as I love moonphases and the 5205g is one of my favorites since it was first released. And then I sort of wavered to something more dressy, like a 5396g or a 5227r. However, through all the enabling (I am looking at you Ken (HL65) and Ben's epic post), as well as others, it pointed me to a model that I never really looked at too closely before...the aquanaut. I fell in love with the 5167r, and so, here it is at last! I got home quite late today so only took a few quick pics to share. Will definitely post some more pics when I get a chance. The Patek box h
Insurance on Rolex?
Just wondering how many people out there insure their Rolex? 1. If so, how much usually is the insurance payment annually..lets say a Sub C Date since that's one of the more popular models aside from the BLNR.2. What's the process that people have to go through to insure their watches?3. If for the unlucky few that do have something happen to their Rolex (lost)/(theft), Sapphire crystal chipped, Oyster band falls apart, etc, is the full MSRP of the watch or replaceable parts redeemable or to what extent?Just something to think about for people that just recently acquire a new piece.
Oysterflex bracelet question
If I were to buy a TT Datejust 41 with an oyster bracelet; how difficult would it be to get the oysterflex bracelet and switch them out depending on the situation?I like the look of the TT Daytona with the oysterflex, but would like to see that same look in a Datejust 41. Am I crazy?Thoughts?
