Thinking of flipping PO8900. What? I know.
So I picked up a new PO 8900 last October. It's a great piece, and the things I didn't care for on the 8500 (flipped) were corrected in my mind. I was excited to get it. Fast forward a few months, I unexpectedly picked up a DSSD-Blue. The thing has hardly left my wrist. The 8900 is by no means a slouch, but it just doesn't come near the D-Blue for me. The 8900 now spends most days sitting in a spot on the winder. I hate having watches I won't wear. I'm debating on flipping it (along with my Tudor North Flag towards a subc date or maybe black dial Explorer II to wear on those days I don't want something as big as the D-blue or sporty dressy as the GMTIIc. I have my pepsi, but I don't want to wear it in more harsh environments for various reasons. I'm torn though as I think it's a wonderful offering from Omega, but sits in the shadows of the JC. A part of me will miss it, but the other part will hate myself for just letting it sit there. If I flip it, I'll be losing some diversity in th
The Planet Ocean GTM GoodPlanet is in (but not incoming)
I really like Omega's affiliation with GoodPlanet so I was pretty happy when I got the call that the new Planet Ocean GMT was in. I currently don't have a GMT in the line-up so I had high expectations on this watch, specially after seeing Ruckdee's excellent photos and review. The PO-GMT GP package is beautiful with a big bamboo box. My first impressions was: wow, this is a solid piece. 43.5mm and more than 17mm thick (probably 17.25 or 17.5) and it is heavy. I don't have the exact weight but at least 200 grams, which puts it exactly in the same class as the Rolex Deepsea. Unfortunately, I find that problematic because as much as I adore the DSSD I think it is top-heavy and quite often uncomfortable to wear. The PO-GMT is in the same superweight-class but lacks the adjustable clasp, which is a life-saver on the DSSD. This might not be a big minus for many or most people, it is just that I don't need another DSSD, which I often have to take off my wrist when working at the computer, or i
Question about switching from deployant / deployment clasp to tang buckle
I have persevered with the deployant / deployment clasp on my 5140G for a month or so, have had an extra hole put in the strap by PP and have even had PP reverse the strap for me, which has been touted on here as a solution to uncomfortable depolyants. But I have now decided that I and the deployant are never going to be friends, and that the time has come for a change. Someone has generously gifted me a genuine PP WG tang buckle, so I now need to sort out a strap. I think that at the PP Salon they told me, but only in passing, that one can't simply put a tang buckle on a deployant strap. But maybe that is just something they do not do as a matter of principle, or maybe it requires some work done on the strap which they do not undertake. Hence my main question: has anyone managed to recycle a PP deployant strap for use with a tang buckle ?As a further question, how much should I expect to pay at the PP Salon for a real Alligator with large rectangular scales in glossy black strap
Simona Strikes Again
Here are two of the three I just received. The tan calf S Line got most of the long weekend wear, but I switched to the seal skin for today:
