Kobold Launches Program to Train Sherpas as Watchmakers
Kobold has announced a program in which its U.S.-based watchmakers will train a group of Sherpas in the art of watchmaking. The former high-altitude mountain guides from Nepal's Himalaya region will begin learning how to assemble mechanical wristwatches in March. The one-year-long program also includes a basic course on managing a luxury business. After successfully completing the program at Kobold's Pittsburgh facilities, the Nepalese citizens will return to their native Mount Everest region to assemble Kobold watches destined for the company's Kathmandu retail store, which is expected to open in August of this year.Kobold expects to train two to three Nepalese citizens every year. By training relatively unskilled Nepalese workers how to make high-end watches, we provide them with a vastly increased level of competitiveness not only in their native country but around the world, explains Michael Kobold, the company's 31-year-old founder. Sea Dweller on a strap?
Afternoon all,Just recently picked up a 126600 and whilst the bracelet is fantastic, I do like the idea of putting it on a strap occasionally. Has anyone done this yet, and if so do they have an pictures they'd like to share. I'm thinking custom calf, alligator etc not a NATO.Thanks
Rolex LV sub rehaut question
Hi folks,It's been a long time and I am not only the proud owner of my Airking, which, as my daily beater for 10 years never misbehaved ever. Still performing with the same accuracy as the day I bought it.Anyway - last year my local jeweller had a Sub LV - only seen one before and that was on someone's wrist. It was 2006 and mint. I bought it for $5,000 - which is a lot of money for me to spend impulsively.I like the fact that, unlike my AK (which I still see as the most Platonic design of a wrist watch), it doesn't have the engraved rehaut. Are the plain rehauts any more collectable? or in the future? In fact, are Rolex still making LVs?I have fallen in love with it. The green is stunning and the bezel is used all the time for me to time my tea brewing or the cats being outside in the freezing Indiana weather!Apologies if this has been covered in another thread.
What color??
I'm going to place a leather strap on my Rolex Submariner 116610. What do you think is the color that will suit you best? Dark brown, medium, calf, Black ... Thank you friends.
