Hamilton Retail Store Field Watches
What would you do if you had been producing a successful product for 20+ years for one big customer, and then that contract went away?? Would you stop production? Shift your production focus elsewhere? Find a new market or customer? This is the problem Hamilton Watch Company faced in the mid-1980s.? The customer was the U.S. military, and the product was the small field/navigator watch.Hamilton had been producing small field and navigator watches for the government under the GG-W-113 and MIL-W-46374 specifications since the mid-1960s.? When the government decided in the mid-1980s to stop purchasing and issuing large batches of military design specification watches from Hamilton and other manufacturers, Hamilton was left with 20+ years of manufacturing experience and equipment for these watches.? Rather than scrap the gear, Hamilton decided to get creative and found a way to keep making the watches.? The company negotiated contracts with a few outdoor equipment and gadget retail stores

Incoming/oops...
Since I got back into the habit of reading about watches every day a couple months ago I had been seeing the 5712/1A coming up a lot. Many times it would show up in this-or-that type comparisons or polls. Last Wednesday I stumbled across this gem of a post:.watchprosite/page-wf....2513/s-0/pzt-/I had seen and handled this watch twice; once in the store, liked it, didn't buy it and then once at Patek. As I had been reading about it a lot lately, I was trying to figure out why I didn't buy it the first time I handled it. I couldn't remember the reason why.Originally I had plans to travel south and order a couple straps for my wife's new FP Journe however my wife had noticed I was looking at watches from other brands all morning so instead she suggested we go north to the city. To make sure I went she suggested we go to one of my favorite restaurants for brunch. When we first got into the AD I struck out on the main pieces I was hoping to see which were the Vacheron Quai De L'ile in s
Auction Houses
Have you ever used an auction house like antiquorum or christies to sell a watch? I am contemplating selling a Patek 5350 using an auction house. I have not aggressively shopped it but it is not an easy piece to move. I would appreciate pointers or lessons learned.
Is 10% worth pulling the trigger early?
Hey everyone, new to the forums here!So I just turned 25 and have been window shopping to figure out what Rolex I want to pull the trigger on. Initially I was glued to a black SS submariner date, but started to wonder once I really started to do my research. I fell in love with a Daytona and new it would take at least a year or two to get one from my AD, so decided to go in and start the process. He actually had one in the back (obviously already sold) and let me try it on. Don't get me wrong, it is an amazing watch and I could totally see myself getting one, but actually fell in love with the rhodium yachtmaster. Which leads me to this week: my AD called me and asked if I wanted to come in again. I asked what his best price would be because this all started when I was planning on purchasing the Daytona (which would be at least another year). He came back with $10.3k cash.Is this worth pulling the trigger now? My worry here is if I don't how long it would take to get one when I
