Kari Voutilainen Thinks This Young Watchmaker Is Cool, And You Should Too: Rexhep Rexhepi's Akri
What were you doing when you were 14 years old? I was in high school in California, playing lots of soccer and generally getting into trouble. Over in Switzerland, Rexhep Rexhepi was an apprentice at Patek Philippe working on tourbillons. Now he has started his own brand, AkriviA. While AkriviA is young, the brand has already drawn praise. A while back Kari Voutilainen was in NYC for a Q&A event. A question was asked along the lines of, "what young watchmakers are doing interesting things?" Kari's answer was "Rexhep Rexhepi." 1 OF 10 2 OF 10 A few weeks ago I received a press release about a new watch from AkriviA, the Tourbillon Hour Minute. While this watch is really impressive and interesting, the press release was not. Instead of trying to rehash the press release, I interviewed Rexhep Rexhepi over email. My goal was to learn a bit more about his background, and where the brand is going. We received some great workshop photography a
Pre-Baselworld 2014: Introducing The Hublot Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono, The Official Watch
In the 1970s there were special chronographs called "Soccer Timers" with markings on the registers for counting the 45 minute halves of a match. Hublot has taken things much further here with the Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono, building a mechanism from the ground up that is optimized for this function. The two retrograde hands clock the seconds and minutes on a specially designed scale and a window at the center of the dial shows which half is being timed. The main timekeeping is separated in a smaller dial at 6 o'clock, so you can wear the watch off the pitch.??The foundation of the?Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono is the new in-house movement. The caliber HUB1260 was built using the same dual-coupling column-wheel technology as the UNICO caliber, but with the marked difference of having two center-mounted retrograde hands for the chronograph mechanism. This 385-part movement is the first bi-retrograde caliber from Hublot and is patent-pending. 2 OF 3 You're pro
15400 vs 26320 vs GMT Master (!)
Hi All,Long time without posting......I was on here a few months back and sold a blue dial 15300 to make way for a Rolex GMT Master. Yes a strange trade you might say.....long story short I needed to free up as much cash as possible for a major home renovation that went majorly over budget, and as such my Panerai (rarely wore it) got sold and I swapped the 15300 for a GMT Master and cash.Anyway the house is now finished, so I am thinking it is time to trade back up.I have a 116710LN and it is my only watch kind of - just this week I have also picked up a BLNR at list which I don't think I intend to keep.Current thinking is either; Flip the BLNR for profit, keep the 116710 and save up for an AP which I can wear in rotationORFlip the BLNR, sell the 116710 and buy an AP as an only watchThe latter is the way I am swaying, as I learnt last time round when you have a stainless AP there isn't an occasion it doesn't suit :) and whatever else you have rarely gets worn!I do like the 15400, but t

DJ41 Dilemma.. opinions please!
I have decided to treat myself to something with my incoming bonus.. and have now decided on my first Rolex! It will be a big upgrade on my current 300 TW Steel and one I have really wanted for the last couple of years as my income has sharply risen . I had never really seen one that grabbed me until I seen option A below in a shop window recently..I know it's a bit bling bling but I think it also looks kind of classy. Then I was considering option B as a less bling bling option when I stumbled across someones post on here with option C which looked much more beautiful than on the Rolex Website imo!Would welcome other opinions. Will be worn to work with suit, worn out to dinners and most likely cuddled throughout the night whilst I sleep. On another note - I went in to have a look and they didn't have A or B but can get it from another store (about 10-15 Rolex Stores in the city) within an hour of ordering. The dealer offered 5% off with no negotiation at all. Is it normal to jus
