Montblanc e-Strap Combines Smart Wearable Device With Mechanical Watch In New Timewalker Urban Speed Collection
Prior to the Geneva watch trade show SIHH 2015, watch and luxury goods maker Montblanc has announced it is stepping into the smartwatch market C well, at least the smart wearables market. The upcoming Montblanc Timewalker Urban Speed collection of timepieces will have an optional strap called the e-Strap (product reference 113827) C perhaps the first smart connected wearable from an established luxury company. The e-Strap features a high-end leather strap that has a carbon fiber texture to it that Montblanc calls "Extreme Montblanc Leather" and is produced by them in Florence, Italy. There was a time when people were really sick of mechanical watches. The little machine movements are enjoying an enormous renaissance right now, but it was not always that way. In fact, back in the early 1990's the mechanical movement was all about to die. How did it get to that point?Back in the late 1950's, all you had at your disposal was mechanical movements, much of which were not very accurate. Without going into a watch movement history lesson, suffice it to say that in late 1950's the electronic watch was almost ready for production. They were the precursor to quartz watches, which used what is called a "tuning fork" for accuracy and regulating the movement. Quartz watches use a vibrating quartz crystal instead of a tuning fork. Tuning fork watches proved to be much more accurate than mechanical watches and were powered by batteries, not the winding

A quick shot with the iPhone. While not a Bond junkie, I saw this and couldn't resist it. Just the right bit of understatement.
Have we ever rated straps ?
Only a few days ago I posted pics of a new strap on my PatekI really loved it and I think I was not the only oneit was this watch / strapI just made a few macro shots ... no not from the watch but this time from the strap. Look at these and tell me how you would rate it. Do realize these are macro shots so imperfections would not come as a surprise. What duo you think about the pattern, the 'character', the finishing of the side, the stitching, the ....Do you think this is real croc or fake ?Is it a cheap, average or expensive strap ?Just curious to know what others thinkDo we have some well informed strap purists who can tell more ?for the fun I added a poll ...
