The Restoration Of A Rolex Tru-Beat Caliber 1040 (Reference 6556)
Rolex makes some of the most robust workhorse movements on the planet, but (with some exceptions) “Rolex” and “complication” are rarely words found in a single sentence. That is what makes the Rolex Tru-Beat and the restoration of it so awesome. I got the chance to work on an incredibly rare and uncharacteristic Rolex movement and loved every dead second of it. While many readers here know this, for the sake of the new, the Tru-Beat has a dead-second complication, meaning the second hand “ticks” rather than flows. Made in the '60s, this was a mechanical novelty that was relegated to near obscurity because of its unfortunate likeness to a dreaded cheap quartz watch. The complication serves no practical purpose, and while arguably most complications serve no practical purpose, Rolex has almost never ventured into the world of complications. They don’t make tourbillons, repeaters, perpetual calendars, etc., yet for a brief period of ti
Bring a Loupe: A Crazy Rare Zenith El Primero And Five Nicely Priced Chronographs From Wittnauer, Mi
This Bring A Loupe will be dedicated entirelely to everyone's favorite complication, the chronograph. You will find an extremely rare (and very exotic looking) Zenith El Primero, the reference G383, produced in only 200 examples in 1970. We also scoured eBay in order to find some relatively affordable chronographs, most of them under $1,000. As you might expect, no Heuer or Universal Geneve made it this week given our budget constraint, but you will discover some other really exciting watches from Wittnauer, Minerva, and Mathey-Tissot. This is your Bring A Loupe for February 19, 2016. A Minerva Chronograph Reference VD712 With A Better Dial Than It Seems 1 OF 8 This Minerva is a good example of a nice looking three-register chronograph that does not break the bank. The Minerva VD712 is powered by the famous Valjoux 72 (also found in vintage Rolex Daytonas) and apparently this chrono was even used by the Swedish army – you can find some great shots of the
Need HELP! - 5980/1A, blue, white, or black
I can't decide on the dial color for a PP 5980/1A.Blue, White, or Black???Each of the 3 colors speaks to me differently and I really can't decide.I think I'm leaning toward white, it seems to be more unusual.I usually like things more understated, and am more casual than dressy.
Alternative straps for a Polar Explorer.
Ie got a Black Dial 16570 that I do not have the bracelet for and which I wear almost daily on a black rubber Everest strap and its quite simply my favourite watch, more so than either of my Subs (14060m & 114060). I have recently bought another 16570, this time a Polar on a bracelet and I like to put this watch into my rotation. I֪ not really a bracelet guy and are looking at alternatives. I֪ reluctant to get another Everest as I don think black would suit a white dial and I֪ not keen on the other available colours. I֪ therefore thinking about NATO and maybe a leather option. Anyone have any suggestions and even better pictures. Thanks.
Incoming! BLNR
Wandered into the AD last night to check out the DJII vs DJ41. Have been getting sick of the rising grey market on my two targets - Hulk and BLNR. Figured I'd see what I thought about the DJ (which by the way I love the DJ41 with rhodium dial, fluted bezel, on jubilee - absolutely awesome). While trying on the DJ's, we were talking about the demand of sport models right now and how I'd love a Hulk or BLNR if I could find one. Then he walks in the back and brings a brand new BLNR to me. I whipped out my card and the rest is history. Was originally going to wait for out of state shipping to a relative but we ended up bypassing that. Just picked it up an hour ago on my way to the airport!Pairs nicely with Pepsi!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
