Interview: Jean-Claude Biver Provides (Some) Details On TAG Heuer's Smart Watch Collaboration With Google And Intel (Before We Are Interrupted By F.P. Journe And Half Of KISS)
Warning: Serious name-dropping ahead. Don't judge.Baselworld is one of those places where stuff just happens. I was passing by the TAG Heuer booth when I was summoned into the back by Mr. Jean-Claude Biver, for an impromptu chat about TAG's recently-announced partnership with Google and Intel to make a smartwatch. We didn't have the chance to get too in-depth before Mr. F.P. Journe popped his head into the room to say hello, accompanied by mega-collector Claude Sfeir. Oh, and then half of the band KISS showed up and our conversation quickly derailed. Essentially it was like every great HODINKEE video* merging into one whacky 30-minute pow-wow. So while our chat was brief, it was somewhat illuminating, particularly regarding this master marketer's strategy with TAG's looming Google/Intel collab. And yes, that was me completely name-dropping in a not-so-shameless way. I hope you'll allow it just this once because it was one of those moments where I looked around t
Measurement Request Please
I just took delivery of my first AP and it comes with an alligator strap, lovely, but probably not durable to every day use. Would anyone be so kind as to measure an Offshore 42mm and 44mm please and also a diver. Specifically the width at the lugs and the width where the clasp would close. Many thanks.p.s.Mine is 28x20 with deployant. I know I can probably buy an aftermarket band but was wondering if a regular rubber strap would fit.
Allocated/Application
Excuse my ignorance. I've been reading about application and allocation and I believe that application comes direct from PP and allocation from AD. So if an allocated watch comes from PP to an AD the AD can give the piece to anyone they want but a applicated watch comes from PP with the recipients name written on the certificate of ownership. Is this about correct? Now my other question is that I've been on a list for a 5712 and the AD says I'm 2nd so when they get allocation do they come in at the same time? I mean if they are allocated 4 a year would they get 2 at a time? I'm sorry I am just going nuts waiting and it's only been 2 weeks! But I was told that once the 1st watch comes in I could come in and take a look at it. So I was thinking if the 1st one comes in maybe the 2nd comes in at the same time? Maybe?
5167 Bracelet Question
I have decided that the 5167 is the right Patek for me. I have been going back and forth between the 5167 and the 5711, but had never seen the 5711 in person. My local dealer called yesterday to tell me he had a 5711 that just came in and I could have it if it spoke to me. I went to see it and I am happy to say liked the dial on the 5167 better. I am glad I had this opportunity, it confirms my decision. The dealer has the 5167 in stock with the bracelet, and said that he would give me the rubber strap and deployment at no charge if I went with the bracelet version. My question is to those that have the 5167, have you ever wished you had the bracelet, is it worth the extra $3,000.
A new Panerai Mare Nostrum Acciaio 42mm
This looks very nice. I dislike the faux patina though. Same movement as the original 1993 too.https://.hodinkee/articles/pa...mm-introducingThanksEverett
