Close-Up: Rolex Yacht-Master in Rolesium (With Video)
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master, a sailors’ watch introduced in 1992, underwent a major facelift recently in both its design and technology. In 2012, Rolex released a version with an Oyster case made of its patented alloy Rolesium, and a cool, blue dial with brushed sunray pattern.Rolesium, a material developed by Rolex and used here in the Yacht-Master’s 40-mm diameter Oyster case, is an alloy of 904L stainless steel and platinum. The bezel, which rotates in both directions and now has a notched ring with 120 gradations, is made entirely of 950 platinum. It has a smooth, sand-blasted finish, except for the raised numerals and indices, which are polished. The hour markers on the nautical-looking blue dial are made of 18k white gold and filled with a luminescent material called Chromalight, which gives off a strong, blue-tinted glow in the dark.?Rolex’s traditional Oyster case with a middle piece crafted from a solid block of the corrosion-resistant alloy and
Speedmaster + Provenance = BIG $$$!!!!
I'm following this auction for a pre-moon Speedmaster that appears to have an interesting history. Absolutly amazing what provenance will do to the value of a watch! The current bid of $7100, is more than twice the going price, assuming it's a caliber 321 movement (no movement pictures and the time of purchase could make it a late 321 or an early 861) How high will it go? As I type, the auction doesn't end for another 24 hours!Auction link:cgi.ebay/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:ITThe seller states that she is the wife of co-author of: Dark Waters:An Insider's Account of the NR-1:The Cold War's UndercoverNuclear Sub: An Insider's Account of the NR-1 The Cold War's Undercover Nuclear SubA former crewmember and a journalist join forces to tell the absorbing tale of the deepest secret weapon in the U.S. Navy's submarine force, the deep-diving nuclear submarine NR-1. How do you explain your Pam?
The only other watches I have are Rolex Subs...easily explainable...The PAM, I am new to. Someone will say Wow, that is a beautiful watch! What is it?I respond with...This is a Luminor Panerai 000 Logo....I feel like I need to help them understand what this amazing timepiece is...What is your go to explanation?

Input Needed
Hi everyone! I have been using my GMTIIC as my daily watch for almost 5 years, and am looking to buy another watch. I am currently debating between a white/silver dial 15400ST or a YM 116680 (pre- 2017 Baselworld hands) and would like some input as I have concerns over both watches.116680 - I love the look and feel of the watch, but worry it might be too similar to the GMTIIC. 15400 - Very different watch to diversify (pro), but as I am still 21, I am worried of how it will hold up without a ceramic bezels.I would appreciate any input!
