My First Grail Watch: Eric Loth
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with Eric Loth, the founder of Graham SA, about?the grails that elude him to this day.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Eric Loth (EL): I'm the founder of Graham SA. I grew up in le Locle and did my engineering studies in the region. La Chaux-de-Fonds, next to Le Locle, is now the home of Graham. The Watch valley is an area I know pretty well. And this is in this region that my passion for mechanics and precision also was born.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?EL: I started my working life at Rado. HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 84
We discuss what happens when there is no quality control before a brand announces a new product, as well as what happens when a brand (Hublot) announces a cool new product (the Antikythera watch) that will never be available for sale. I recap my review of the lovely Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo, and my article on Dubois-Depraz that eventually got me in trouble.Listen to the HourTime Show watch podcast episode 84 here.Download the MP3.
Marvin M109 Watch Offers Handsome Looks, Value, Unavailability In The US
I swear, this watch has no real name, just "model m109.14.43.65." That looks almost like an IP address. Marvin refers to it as part of the M109 collection. So for the purposes of this article, I will just call it the Marvin watch or M109 (even though there are other M109 watches in various colors and styles). They should have called it something cool like the "Squaropolis." Yea, I just made that name up. The company shares the story of many current watch companies: it started a long time ago (1850). Died, then came back via a name purchase. This was about a year ago, and the company was wise enough to have a wide enough range of prices to make them accessible. Their watches are prices from about $400 - $4000, and they offer both men's and women's watches with mechanical or quartz movements. This particular Marvin watch is pretty cool, with a nice design. Actually, the design is mostly Bell & Ross (dial and numeral design), Glycine (compare logos, even though the Marvin and Glycine l
