Rolex Begins Using Silicon "Syloxi" Hairsprings In Caliber 2236
Rolex has been one of the most interesting brands to reveal new things here at Baselworld 2014 - but only if you look really closely. Sure the new Sea-Dweller and "Pepsi bezel" GMT-Master II are lovely looking, but in my opinion the most interesting items of news are found in the minor details which are part of the new watches. For instance, almost hidden as part of a ladies watch is a new piece of Rolex technology known as Syloxi C which is essentially a silicon (silicium) hairspring.Yes, that is right: for 2014, Rolex has begun to use silicon hairsprings, a technology that they have been working on for over a decade, but have only now decided to incorporate into a watch. It was only several years ago, in the year 2000, that Rolex introduced their "paramagnetic" Parachrom hairspring that is an exotic alloy of metals. As of 2014 the Syloxi silicon hairsprings will not replace Parachrom hairsprings, but will rather sit side by side them in a different range of? watches.Rolex seems to su
Introducing The IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar Digital Date 75th Anniversary Edition
Continuing the 75th anniversary of its Portuguese family, here we have the Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month from IWC. The name gives a pretty apt description of the watch itself, and if the Hand-Wound is a contemporary throwback, the Perpetual Calendar is a modern adaptation of recent design trends seen in the Portuguese family. The digital date and month display are nothing new to IWC, but this is their first appearance within the Portuguese line. Oh, and what is hardly mentioned in the press release, this is also a chronograph, meaning this is our favorite combination of complications there is. 2 OF 8 The Portuguese Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Edition "75th Anniversary" packages a familiar complication set-in fact, just last year we saw this very same movement come packaged in an oversized Aquatimer limited edition. However, the caliber 89801 feels a little more appropriate within the context of the Portuguese. In its latest guise, the Portuguese Perpetua

Report on my Patek 5205G...............
The first six weeks with my 5205G………This is the first review of a watch that I have ever done, so please bear with me, especially if the construction of it , is not quite in sync!As most of the regular members will know, and probably frustrated after, I have been in love with this piece, especially with the darker coloured (grey) dial from the moment that I first saw the photos that came out from Basel 2010. So much so that when I saw a dummy model at my AD the following month, I asked them to let me know, when the first one came in. In the meantime, not having the cash available for such a purchase, I went about doing some “Wheeling & Dealing” of my small collection, which included my FP Journe Black Label Calendrier, which to a degree I still very much regret selling. Long story short, I received a phone call from my AD back in September asking me if I was still keen on getting a 5205G? Yes was my reply, so after a small deposit had been placed and
