Sotheby's auction estimates unbelievably wrong
Hi guys and galsI happened to look at Sotheby's auction results for the Fullerton Collection, and am shocked to see how woefully undervalued they were.I can understand one or two estimates slipping through the cracks, but all of them appear to have been valued at only 10-20% of the actual hammer price!!! I think they need a serious staff review in that department... I may even suggest they join and read TRF, they could learn something!!!

This weekend whilst in Bahrain we went to a jewellery and watch exhibition. On the Patek stand they had the Ref.5101P Ten day power reserve tourbillon. I asked the guys on the stand where it was as I'd never seen one. To my surprise and without hesitation, they took it out of the armour glass display and placed it in my hand. What a beauty!! The price as far as I can work out is ��175,000!!! Brenda said I couldn't have it so I had to hand it back. There's been an overwhelming barrage of threads lately where regular Joes like myself have complained about the impossibility of getting a stainless steel Rolex at retail. I only very recently (last week) learned of just how impossible a feat this really is. The popular SS models are pretty much exclusively reserved for VIP's-- people who've spent $100k+ on jewellery and less-desirable Rolexes/watches-- and while they may have lists for us ordinary shmucks, they don't really mean a thing. Even if you're so lucky to hear the (deceitful) words you're on the list, it's really just a thinly veiled no as there'll always be someone who comes along before your name is reached who'll get dibs first. It just really irks me that having the money--$10k+-- is simply no longer enough to get you a watch. $10k may be chump change to some folks on here, but to the vast majority of the world it's a hell of a lot of money, no less to spend on a mass-produced watch boasting such antiquated mechanisms- ju
