Bring a Loupe: An Untouched Omega Speedmaster, An Unusual Breitling, And Other Interesting Finds (In
This week, you followed all the exciting SIHH novelties live from Geneva; today, Bring A Loupe returns with some really gorgeous vintage watches – or vintage-inspired, in the case of my favorite Grand Seiko. You will notably discover how a Speedmaster looked when it was sold in 1971, and admire a nicely preserved Movado. I have also found an intriguing bullhead watch from Breitling, and a not-so-great medical chronograph from Universal Geneve. This is your Bring A Loupe for January 22, 2016. An Omega Speedmaster Reference 145.022, NOS From 1971 1 OF 14 Finding an untouched example is a recurrent fantasy for watch collectors – probably not as frequent as a time-travel machine to stock up on vintage references, but not far off. Here, this Omega Speedmaster reference 145.022 follows this time-capsule logic: it was purchased in the UK back in 1971 and left in the box since, to the point that the bracelet links are imprinted on the watch holder. AP 15305 vs 15407 Openworked which one?
Assuming you like the skeletonized model..I am interested in hearing which one you would select. Each might have a favorite gold vs steel but lets leave this out of the equation as both come in gold and steel The pluses and minuses of each.. as I see itNew release 15407 vs current soon to be retired 15305 41mm vs 39mm - 15407- second balance wheel- perhaps more accurate, less power reserve, appearance of the gold color of this addition --- more contrast to skeleton but less symmetry and perhaps distracting to rest of dial?15407 better contrast of hands-time tick marks15407 higher cost

Rolex DD for a 5127? Pros and cons?
I'm interested in a PP 5127 (R or J) and I would likely trade my Rolex DD toward the PP. I understand they're different watches, but is this a good idea?I've seen service times on Pateks taking up to 17 months and people worrying about wearing them regularly. I'd expect mine to be (mostly) a daily wear watch. Is this crazy? Rolexes can be serviced fairly easily and quickly and they're not generally regarded as safe queen watches. Again, I know they're different, but can I expect a totally different ownership experience? Thanks for your thoughts.
