Do AP watches keep value like a Rolex....
I am starting to take a fancy to AP watches. I use to have a Panerai Power Reserve that I purchased from an AD for $10500 and ended up selling it for $5250 taking a huge loss and I do not want that to happen again! My question is do AP hold their value quite well?
New PO Chono
Many thanks to Alfred (FNFZ4) for sourcing a new PO Chrono for me. I think the rest of my pieces will have to sit for a while....
Omega Planet Ocean Liquidmetal vs Rolex Submariner, what holds better value?
My first post on this great forum. So much good quality info and help from experienced owners it is just incredible!I have been wanting to buy a Sub for some time now, but when I saw the PO Liquidmetal must say that my heart crossed to Omega. The only question I have for more experienced watch people is related to the potential resale price of PO LM in the future.Rolexes are well known for holding the best value over time. Omegas not so much, from what I could see the standard PO's loose upto 50% of value in 2 years time. As I dont like wasting my money too much I discarded Omega easily. But what I dont know is how will the Limited Edition factor of PO Liquidmetal influence the resale price? In theory limited eds should loose less value in time, but on the other hand it is not as limited as the word may imply with 2000 pieces to be produced. The second factor where I am in the dark, first liquidmetal watch in the world factor...So, if there are some good souls out there experienced in v
Supersize v Elegance
The new 5990.... when I first saw it I was delighted.............then I saw the video. While I admire the potential value of this piece to travellers, I cannot bring myself to come to terms with the bloated pushers and (formerly) hinge detail on the crown side. We see iterations of classic designs in all spheres of life and, usually, this comes with a increase in size. There comes, though, a point where the original concept and elegance has evolved into an entirely new product. The elegant 5711 morphed over time into the 5980 which, on its own merits, has become a most admired and classic piece. It retains the original DNA of the Nautilus. Somehow, I feel this has been abandoned with the advent of the 5990. There has always been some crossover between the Nautilus and Aquanaut with the 5164 filling an increasingly important niche in the market. Perhaps it is just the Modernist in me rebelling and I am willing to be convinced otherwise, but I am finding this release somewhat bemusing
