VISUAL QUIZ: Can You Identify These Mystery Watches?
Can you identify a watch at 40 paces? How about when only a bit of the watch is visible, the rest hidden by a shirt cuff? To test your watch spotting skills, we’ve cropped images of 15 well-known modern watches so that you can see only a portion of the dial and case. Can you identify them? The answers, along with the complete images, appear at the bottom. Good luck! Answers: 1. Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 2. Seiko Spring Drive 3. Richard Mille RM001 4. Lange 1 Timezone 5. Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon 6. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 7. Breguet La Tradition 7027 8. F.P. Journe Chronometre Bleu 9. PIAGET Emperador Coussin XL 700P
1976. The year that brought us U2, The Clash and The Cure Whilst our ears listened to new tempos, our Swiss watches beat to the rhythm of quartz movements. Just like the 7P which Piaget brought us in 1976, the slimmest of its generation. Forty years on and the brand is still in touch with its electronic roots. The new Emperador Coussin XL 700P sees Piaget pair quartz with a great mechanism. What's the idea? The traditional escapement is replaced by a generator which produces electricity to make quartz vibrate. It's the same as dynamo hubs in bikes. What you get is no friction, no energy loss and precision that varies by 0.2s per day! The hybrid mechanism is showcased by a reverse dial-free construction meaning the hour and minute hands glide over the ultra-slim self-winding mechanical calibre. The stylish all-black timepiece oozes luxury watchmaking and high precision. Price: 70,000 CHF (118 available). Dan Diaconujaquet droz
Why no AP logo on the Diver's dial?
I was wondering why is it that the Diver seems to be the only RO or ROO (not counting the skeletonized dials) that does not have an AP on the dial? The strange thing is that the original Wempe Scuba, and then the 3 other ScubaS (blue, orange and red) all had an AP on the dial.Anyone knows?
How much do replacement hands effect value?
I picked up a T serial 16710 and it was supposed to be original dial and hands. The only issue is that when I received it, the dial does not light up but the hands do. I think it was an honest mistake by the seller as he's been great to deal with. What I'm trying to figure out is how much this will impact the value of the watch if I go to flip it later.
Purchcasing from an overseas seller
Has anyone here had experience in purchasing from a UK dealer and dealing with import customs details? On a $7,000.00 USD watch, what will duties actually be and how do I approach the process? Looking for an approximate cost I should add to the purchase price to bring it home. Thanks for any input!
