Jukebox Hero: Harry Winston Opus 14 Launches in Rock ‘n’ Roll Style
The most secretive new watch in recent history finally launched last night, as the long-awaited Harry Winston Opus 14 made its debut at a lavish 1950s-themed party at Kurhaus Casino in Baden-Baden, Germany along with the surprise announcement of “Blurred Lines” crooner Robin Thicke as the watch-and-jewelry giant’s new brand ambassador.Guests traveled to the event in classic American muscle cars from the 50s (mine was a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado) and were greeted by roller-skating hostesses before entering the main hall, which was decked out like a gigantic 1950s diner, complete with pinball machines, cocktail selections on old-fashioned diner menus, and black-and-white images of 1950s stars like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Cary Grant. On the main stage, flanked by jukeboxes, Harry Winston CEO Nayla Hayek presented the watch, after which Thicke, freshly introduced as a Harry Winston brand ambassador and wearing an Opus 14, wowed the international crowd with an i
RGM Marks 20 Years With Third In-House Caliber
RGM, the pioneering Pennsylvania-based watch brand founded in 1992 by Roland G. Murphy, turns 20 years old in 2012. Murphy commemorated the anniversary in the manner he knows best: by developing his brand’s third in-house mechanical movement, called Caliber 20, and outfitting it in a new watch that RGM introduced at January’s Geneva Time Exhibition.Caliber 20 joins its predecessors, RGM’s groundbreaking Caliber 801 in 2008 and the MM2 Pennsylvania Tourbillon movement in 2010, in the exclusive fraternity of “Made in the U.S.A.” watch movements manufactured entirely at Murphy’s small atelier in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County, a traditional center of watchmaking since the 1800s.Fittingly, the watch’s movement incorporates a distinctly American technological touch, one nearly lost to antiquity: the so-called “motor barrel” system. An American invention, the motor barrel (illustration below the watch photos) was designed to reduce
Martin Braun Hyperion and Kephalos
For 2009 Martin Braun introduces 2 new models. The Hyperion is a 44mm diameter flying minute tourbillon with retrograde moon phase and date displays. The similarly-sized Kephalos Heliozentric combines a multitude of complications including an annual calendar with retrograde date, plus day, month, position of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun, Equation of Time, and a 24 day/night display. Martin Braun names his creations after figures from Greek mythology. Earlier models include the Eos (2001), Boreas (2003), Astraios (2005) and Kephalos (2008). For 2009 Martin adds a tourbillon to his collection and it bears the fittingly impressive name Hyperion. This piece incorporates Braun's own retrograde moon phase that has the moon moving to each phase step by step. Upon reaching full or new moon, the disc begins to turn backwards. Braun claims that this is most precise adjustable moon phase on the market, accurate for 122 ? years. The Hyperion is housed in Martin Braun's signature case, meas
Seamaster Differences?
read a similar thread on the Speedmaster...among so many Seamasters, if i were to get one, which should it be? if the 3570.50.00 is the MUST buy for the Speedmaster, then what is its equivalent in the Seamaster line? would it be the 2254.50.00?i don't think this is still being sold though... thanks in advance!
New PAM 572
Just arrived this morning, my first Panerai, the 572, So comfortable and after having doubts about a large watch this one at 45 mm is perfect. Three day automatic, micro rotor, sapphire crystal, unworn and fresh from the Las Vegas boutique, I'm extremely happy. Totally new to Panerai so I read just about every post in the Pam forum before making my decision, so thanks to everyone for educating me.
